pains of all sorts
hello!
okay im 16, not sexualy active(well no intercorse i guess i should say) and i have been having some problems latley. im wondering if any of you have had the same thing or know anything about this.

ok so last week i was at work and i was having bad abdominal pains along with my lower back hurting like it usually does before i get my period. The pains eventually got so bad that i went to the emergency room because it hurt to move or breath. i thought maybe i had bad gas or something like that and when i tryed to go to the bathroom i got sharp pains that seemed to go from my vagina to my ovaries. [i had ocasionaly had these sharp pains before but not too bad] at the hospital they thought it had to do with my apendix, but no. they sent me to my regular doctor a few days latter.
my doctor said that what he thought it was was mid cycle pains or something like that. [this may be alittle off but..] something about my ovarie realeasing the egg early and something poping, causing bleeding and the sudden pain that i had. now we have to wait untill its midway again to see if i have the pains, if i do i believe i am being put on birth controll to stop it.

so i guess what i want to know is have any of you had anything like this before? any advice?
im kind of frustrated and worried. please help

thank you!

Do they think the pain is from ovulation maybe? Thats the only thing I can think of that would cause pain midway through a period...

Ovulation is the egg being released from the ovary. It's possible she's also got an ovarian cyst, which can cause ovary pains.

I understand that is what ovulation is, but the OP, to me at least, seemed to be confused about if it was normal to get pain midway through a period or what exactly they were referring to about the egg being released and such. I was simply trying to clarify that pain from ovulation could occur.

To the OP, I'm sorry if I interpreted your questions wrong or thought you didn't understand something you did. I was simply trying to let you know that ovulation pain can be a normal thing. It is possible that you could have a cyst or something causing the pain, as [livejournal.com profile] janaphone said, but it could also just be normal pain from ovulation. Your doctor will probably check for anything abnormal before they deem it to just be regular ovulation pain. Birth control will help with this pain, though, because you will not ovulate on birth control.

Sorry, when you were referring to going to the bathroom did you mean #1 or #2? If you were feeling pain in your back and vagina when urinating I would say it's a UTI, more likely kidney infection. Did they do a urinalysis?

At mid-cycle, the follicle bursts and releases the egg, a process sometimes accompanied by a discomfort called "Mittelschmerz," (German for "pain in the middle" [of the cycle], because it occurs around day 14 of the typical 28 day menstrual cycle). After release of the egg, the follicular cyst collapses and acquires a yellow coloration due to the presence of enzyme systems involved in the production of the steroid hormone progesterone ("steroid hormone good for pregnancy"). The follicular remnant is now called a corpus luteum (Latin for "yellow body"). The time from ovulation to menstruation (cycle day 14 to 28 typically) is therefore called the "luteal phase." Progesterone reaches peak levels around the middle of the luteal phase (cycle day 21 of the typical 28 day cycle), and by day 28, it decreases and menstruation begins unless the corpus luteum is "rescued" by hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), the pregnancy hormone that stimulates sustained progesterone production (at least for a few weeks, until the placenta can take over) to allow for pregnancy to progress.

I've had these for about 7 years now, and the pain is intense, and usually initiates in me with straining to pass stool that causes the cyst to rupture, so this may be what yor Dr. was talking about. Usually to do a conclusive diagnosis for this the DR. does a trans-vaginal ultrasound.
