I've posted twice about my UTI syptoms (smelly, oily urine) and my allergies to avelox and azithromycin. I finally went to an obgyn, who barely looked at me and prescribed a week of macrobid twice daily. I had to wait till two days after my obgyn exam to start taking the macro, and the day i started, I began to have typical symptoms (sharp pain before peeing, peeing constantly). They pretty much went away after the first couple of days, although the smelly urine remained. Well, i finished the macrobid yesterday, and also started getting the sharp pain and peeing again (worse than before), along with a horrible stabbing pain on my left side abdomen and back (I usually ignore back pain because I have a chronic condition, but this seems worse than normal). I've also been feeling run down and icky and achy for a few days. My obgyn's office is a nightmare, so I bypassed them and made an appointment just to get a urine done at my gp (the doc and np aren't available till next week). I did, however, call my obgyn to make sure they got the first urine test back. Well, they did, and it came back negative. I'm mad that they let me do a round of macro for no reason, and never bothered to tell me the test was negative. I'm terrified of resistant bacteria, and I think what they did just hurt me, didn't help me.
What the hell is going on here?? Is it possible I had a kidney infection already so the uti didn't show up? Is THIS a kidney infection? I'll be seeing a doc asap but does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

i actually had to come home from a vacation early last weekend because of the symptoms you described regarding the pain near your kidneys. i would highly recommend going to the emergency room. that's what i did, and they did a full urinalysis (and told me what the bacteria was sensitive/resistant to). i literally felt better the next day on the antibiotics they prescribed.

kidney pain is not something to mess around with!! feel better!

It does sound like it could be a kidney infection, which can turn out to be bad, since your kidneys regulate many body processes. I personally would never have given you macrobid without having a positive test result, since the healthcare team is supposed to be cutting back on passing out antibiotics at the drop of a hat. Call your GP or NP and tell them your concerns. They may fit you in earlier or refer you to the ED.
