Today I got into a rather stupid bike crash (use a messenger bag or a basket, folks), which resulted in me being sort of catapulted off my bike and banging my vag on it.
Now, I can deal with the skinned knee, but I seem to have cut the outside of my vagina, and I'm not sure what to do.
It's mostly stopped bleeding, but it really hurts, especially when I walk. I took ibuprofen... but damn, it really hurts. Do I just grimace and wait for it to heel? Not an area for a band-aid, I suppose.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Ibuprofen is probably the best thing. Keep it clean, warm salt water will help as well as a bath in some antisceptic. If there ends up being any infection or it still hurts in a couple of days, get it checked out.

As an alternative to a band-aid (which of course wouldn't work), you might try a bit of Neosporin (or a generic equivalent) and a pantyliner (to keep the neosporin off your panties). There are also Neosporin and store brands that have a pain-killing ingredient.
Sorry you got hurt. I hope it heals quickly.

And, I'd suggest a scent free pantyliner. Because anything scented might irritate healing skin.

Good point. I didn't even think of that.

I was thinking Neosporin and some of that liquid band aid on the cut, too.

GAH! I totally did that last spring and it hurt like a motha, I feel your pain. My only suggestion is to keep it covered in that antibacterial stuff, it helped it to heal quickly (i'd done it before and let it be and it was a long bothersome road to recovery!) Also, this is gonna sound strange, go comando with loose pants. It'll help everything to "air out" a bit.

I once got a horrible bone bruise on my pubis that way. Sitting and peeing and walking were all painful. It took a few weeks for the pain to go away.

If the pain persists for more than a few days, you might want to see a doctor.

Ice in a plastic bag off and on while you can, for a few days.

i don't really have any helpful advice on what to do to speed up the healing process, but i do want to let you know i've experienced a similar injury when i was really young (i fell onto a wooden beam split legged and bruised/bled from my vag, it was terrible) and it's never a fun experience :( Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!

Oh, owwwwwwwwwwww, honey. Major sympathetic pains, over here. *wince*

The only thing I can think of - and mind you, I haven't tried it myself, don't know if it will work, but I'm hoping someone else here would know - is that liquid bandage stuff. When you say the outside of your vagina, are you talking about the labia minor, the labia major, or-? I'm not sure which parts, if any, the liquid bandage would be safe to apply to.

Also, I'm sure you already will out of instinct, but go very, very gently with your vag for a few weeks. Gently pat dry after taking a shower, same thing after using the toilet, that sort of thing.

And! Just thought of this - Neosporin makes a pain-relieving antibiotic, and I've used that on my vulva before with no ill effects (ingrown hair, was the only antibiotic I had in the house). That might help with the pain/sensitivity.

Good luck, and speedy healing!

You know, I went to see a dermatologist the other day, who also happens to deal with cooters some of the time. And I explained to her, I don't know what the proper first aid is for dealing with a busted up snatch. If I cut it, if it gets torn, I don't know what to do, so I told her I just use neosporin & leave it alone.

And she reached into a table and pulled out two small containers of "Silvadene." She said it's usually used for burn victims and said to use that for first aid down there. Apply 2x daily for about a week, the label says.

I do not know if Silvadene can be bought over the counter. She didn't give me a prescription for it, just because she happened to have some in the counter to give away.
