two tampons?

hi...this is my first post, I just added this community for the sole purpose of this question so I'm sorry if I'm not doing anything right...

Anyway I didn't see anything in the tags for this...I have my period right now, it's my second day so it's pretty heavy. I work in a resturant and we were very busy tonite. When I had a free second, I ran to the bathroom and quickly put in a new tampon. I don't know how, but somehow I forgot to take my other one out. So I walked around for 3 hours with TWO Super-absorbant tampax pearls in my vagina. I was pretty stunned when, about 10 minutes ago, I pulled a tampon out only to see another string?!

My question is...well, am I ok? I'm worried, does that up my chances for TSS? I don't feel ill, but now I'm nervous...

I did this once too!
it freaked me out, but nothing happened and I was fine.
I was shocked that I could even fit 2 in there and not feel it!

You're probably fine. I've done the same thing before, and suffered no serious consequences other than feeling slightly foolish. Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), while it is a very serious and sometimes fatal illness, is actually very rare.

I just found this link (http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2000/200_tss.html) from the FDA website about TSS, and you might find it interesting. According to this link, TSS was much more common in the early 80's when tampons were made of super-absorbent materials that aren't used any more for exactly this reason. More recently, it's worth noting that there were only three cases of tampon related TSS in 1998, and there's no indication that TSS is any more common than that today.

This link also talks about "forgetting" tampons, which does happen and can result in problems if the tampon is forgotten and left in for too long. Personally, I think that the three hours of double tampons, in your case, is probably minor compared to the example in this link, which involved someone "forgetting" a tampon for six days.

If I were you, I'd just keep an eye out for symptoms of TSS (which are also detailed in that link I mentioned). If you have any symptoms or concerns, it wouldn't hurt to check in with your doctor. But really, I think you'll be fine. :)

I've done it too. I think everyone forgets at some point in their life. Mine's a gross story, but everything worked out okay. You should be fine.

I did this once.. I was completely confused. I swore I took it out.. But I was wrong.

Nothing happened. and chances are nothing will happen to you.

Just watch yourself over the next few days and don't get anxious about it. If you start feeling weird get to a doc ASAP

This happened to me, too. You're fine. If things start hurting or grating or you get feverish, go get checked out.

No big deal, unless you have discomfort or other symptoms. Just don't make a habit of it. ;-)

i've done it once before too, and nothing happened to me :)
gave me a bit of a shock though, hehe!
