So, I checked the tags and didn't see anything - I hope this hasn't been posted recently...

I got my period back at 7 months postpartum. Since then I have been getting a period every 26-29 days like clockwork and I am now nearly 14 months pp. In the beginning, I noticed that there was quite a bit of clots in it - but I figured that would be expected for the first one or so. However, I really haven't seen any change over the past 6 months and now I wonder if I should be concerned. The clotting seems more than I remember in my prepregnancy periods. Anyone else notice this? My periods have also changed in that they are blessedly cramp-free and not nearly as heavy or as long as they were. There is no possibility of pregnancy and I am still nursing.

Out of topic: I would like to say icon basically sums up who I am. That is the most simple creative icon I've ever seen. May I use it?

I have heard that women's menstrual cycles can change somewhat after a pregnancy. I don't have any personal experience with this, but my mom has told me that her periods, like yours, became much less painful and crampy after she had her first child.

I had miserable periods when I was younger, and despite hating hormonal birth control, it was the only thing I tried that made them bearable (they lasted 12-14 days, they were heavy, crampy and clotty, etc.) In discussing this with my gynecologist, in my early 20s, she said that there was a pretty good chance that after pregnancy they would change, and I might end up with less awful periods. I can't say what my natural cycle post-pregnancy is like, because after my miscarriage I went back on the pill to shrink the gigantic ovarian cysts that were found on the ultrasound, but it is quite likely that post-partum, your periods are just different. If you're concerned, check in with your health care provider, who can let you know what is or isn't okay, and monitor your health with you to make sure that the changes you've experienced are healthy.

And, Icon Love as well.

My mother tells me that her period and her PMS symptoms changed after both of her pregnancies. Her periods got lighter, and her PMS got a LOT worse [she now gets migraines each month, and won't listen to me when I tell her to try progesterone cream... grr...]

But basically, a HUGE hormonal change like pregnancy can definitely mess up or change your other hormonal things, like periods.
