Sperm can live for up to 2 days outside of the testes.
When a man Ejaculates, not all of the sperm leave the penis.
The purpose of precum is to cleanse the tubing (forgive me i forget all of the names...) so that nothing inside kills the sperm... regardless; it pushes everything, usually inculding sperm, out of the urethra and into whatever happens to be at the end of the urethra.
If a man has ejaculated within the past 48hours there's a pretty huge risk (again, not sure on the stats, there are relatively few sperm in there) of you getting pregnant from the precum.
And i'm not a doctor or anything, but i've had quite a bit of unprotected sex so i paid attention in A&P.
I dont know the Statistics, but...
