a lot of times, if the number is, say 99.7%, and they actually had zero pregnancies, it's because 3 out of every 1000 trial subjects either dropped out of the trial or couldn't be located for followup, so technically, it was 100% effective for everyone who finished the trial, but they just have no data for those 0.3%, and therefore they have to assume the worst.

my doctor won't let me take depo for more than 2 yrs, but i have a friend who has taken depo for several years, and her doctor is fine with that. not only is there a bone density loss concern, however, but i have another friend who has ovarian cancer (for the second time) and several of her doctors have suggested it could have been from taking depo for too many (8) years. :(

i went back on depo a few weeks ago. i'm sorry i did it, but i was desperate not to have babies too, and i was hating the pill, and it was only temporary. (sterilization on august 1.) anyhow, while i have no bleeding, i suspect that i'd be as sick as a dog if i were to get pregnant, as my mother was when she had me, since she and i react in the same way to hormones. if you're really paranoid, you could take a test each month, but like i said-- i suspect you'd be having morning sickness and just start feeling generally crappy if you were pregnant. but the chances of being pregnant are *so* slim anyway, that's also why i think you'd *know*, you know?
