Okay, I've got a 4cm ovarian cyst on my right ovary, and, I just finished my period a few days ago... I'm also on Flagyl, to treat this. (It's just what they gave me at the hospital, along with Vicodin.)
I'm a *little* itchy down there, and, I'm having some yellowish-tinted discharge. It's compeltely clear, but, it's just got a yellowish color to it. It doesn't smell funny or anything. I've had TONS of Yeast Infections, and, normally the itching is worse.
I know discharge is a symptom of the cyst, but, is the itching part of it? Or could I be developing a Yeast Infection due to the antibiotic? Is there any way I can be sure? I mean normally with a yeastie beastie, I get horrible itching, but, this is just lots of gross discharge and a little itching.
Thank you for any responses, I really appriciate it. I searched for ovarian cyst discharge but didn't find anything on it... (and due to the pain medicine I'm sorta out of it... ^^; ) If it is from the cyst, is there any way I can reduce this goop?

Date: 2006-07-20 09:36 pm (UTC)ALL of the doctors at the ER asked me if I had any strange vaginal discharge... one asked me twice, even, so, I just assumed that it was normal.

Date: 2006-07-20 09:24 pm (UTC)I've never really noticed a change in discharge when I've had a cyst. I've currently got one hanging out right now and my discharge isn't any different than it's ever been. Not to say this can't happen - however if you're having problems with the cyst it's likely that it would be more of a bloody, mucousy discharge as opposed to a variation on your normal day to day stuff.
I think that perhaps you should call your doc and get a pap. Better to be safe than sorry. Yellow discharge is often a sign of infection - but rather than assume it's yeast I'd get it checked out so that you aren't mistreating yourself.
Good luck and feel better soon!

Date: 2006-07-20 09:33 pm (UTC)I don't really understand why they gave me the antibiotic then, because as far as we know I don't have anything wrong with me other than pain, and vomiting. Though it says in wikipedia it's used to treat Bacterial Vaginosis... But they didn't do a pap, or anything up at the ER. The only thing I can think of is they know I've got staph infection in my blood stream, and, may have gone under the assumption that this could be it, but that's just my guess. Up until my period ended I had no strange discharge, I started it the night I started the antibiotics. (If I'm not making sense or jumping around it's due to the vicodin, I can barely think straight!)
Thank you. :D

Date: 2006-07-20 09:38 pm (UTC)I have endometriosis in addition to the lovely cyst issue (though it's just started recently) the endo and I have been battling one another for my reproductive organs for years haha.
I avoid pain pills at all costs because they just make me too damn loopy and no matter how low the dose I always end up sick to my stomach (even if I've eaten beforehand) or having a pain pill hang over after it wears off.
Maybe when you're feeling better you can call the ER or doc you saw and try to dig around and find out why they gave you the antibiotic. I'm curious to know.

Date: 2006-07-21 11:25 am (UTC)She said when she had an ovarian cyst, they put her on antibiotics, because there was infection in it. That didn't stop them from having to drain it... But I told her about the discharge and she said when she had one, that she had some too.
She's going to call my doctor today after we get home from my homeopath, who's going to give me natural medicine for the cyst (YAY! :D ) and ask them who's going to be doing my Ultrasound, and, inform them about the discharge/make sure I don't need to come in... My regular doctor is setting this all up instead of the gyno since we can't get in until later on, and does gynocological exams...
I was actually on morphine for 7 years, due to osteoporosis (I'm 21, about to be 22. I only got off of them in December.) And, I only got loopy once off of one... because it was an overdose. They kept me on such a low dosage that I got NO giddiness from it since I was still in pain. I also have some muscle relaxers that have made NO ONE giddy that I know...except for my best friend when she was in pain. It fixed the pain, but, she was goofy as could be. It just goes to show how different everyone's bodies are!
If I find anything that helps with the cyst pain, that's natural, I'll let you know. So far only Arnica has helped me, it's a natural anti-inflammatory.(I take it internally, and I have a rub of it, that we got from the health food store...) but we don't have a bottle of it anymore so I'm just using the external stuff.
