Last night I went out and got really really drunk. It was ridiculous. And when I came home around 2AM and took my pill (MonoNessa, if it matters), I started puking half an hour later because of all the alcohol. I doubt the pill got fully absorbed into my body in that half an hour, so should I consider it a skipped pill because I threw up so quickly after taking it and use condoms for the rest of the month, or was that half hour enough?

Thanks!

Is two AM your usual pill time? I'm guessing not, so if it is more than three hours late/early and you threw up, I would definitel concider it a skipped pill.

I think it's really silly that you were drunk enough to throw up, but you remembered to take your pill. It's certainly a good thing, it's just rather funny.

I would count it as a missed pill and use condoms for the next week. It should be fully effective again after 7 days of proper use. Besides the fact that you threw it up, you also probably were taking it late(I'm guessing 2AM isn't when you normally take it...), and it's always better to be safe than sorry, right? So I would err on the side of caution and just count it as a missed pill.

This is from my leaflets- If you are sick or have diarrhoea then the hormones form the pill may not have had a chance to be absorbed properly, especially if it was soon after you took it, therefore it is classed as a skipped pill. My pill (and I assume most)then advises you to use extra precautions (condoms) for the next 7 days.

I know that my doctor was always concerned when I vomited within an hour or two after taking birth control pills, so I'd imagine that in this case, you should treat it as a missed pill and follow the instructions on your pill pamphlet as closely as possible. (You can check this source (http://www.wprc.org/11.18.0.0.1.0.phtml) and this one (http://www.contracept.info/medfaq.php#sick) for more info about what steps to take after vomiting after birth control pills.)

Many brands do not require a back-up method after one missed pill -- assuming a replacement pill is available. If you have a spare pack -- or if you'll be able to get a spare pack before you finish the active pills in this one -- you may be able to "double up" so no back-up contraception is required; again, check out your pill insert for information specific to your pill. If this is not possible, yes, backup protection for the next 7 days (or longer, possibly, since you'll be going into your placebo week with less than 21 active days of pills; this may depend on your comfort level) is a proper precaution.
