I've been on several different pills in the last few years (although not OTC Lo), but my doctor always told me that it took about 30 minutes for the pill to be absorbed into my system after taking it. So since you didn't vomit for about 2 hours after that, I would assume you are okay. As for taking it tonight, you can insert it vaginally if you are still throwing up.

Can you go to the ER or urgent care center? I'd be more worried about how sick you are than whether or not you're protected by your BC, though I understand your concern. If you're that sick, you could be dehydrated, or on your way to being dehydrated.

If you can't get to the ER, do you have a doctor you can call? I don't mean to nag; I just had a bad case of sun-poisoning once and am concerned!

I was pretty young so I don't remember a lot of it. I just know I ended up dehydrated from the vomiting and had to be put on fluids. Since you've got an ER nurse helping you out, I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck and hope you feel better!

You could possibly get an electrolyte supplement such as gastrolyte, hydralyte, or even gatorade/powerade. If you have been vomiting and are dehydrated you are probably lacking in electrolytes too (sugars and salts).

It may be a really good idea to seek medical attention if you were vomiting from sunburn. Sun poisoning can be a life-threatening condition. You may risk not only severe dehydration but infection -- if your skin is sticking to materials it sounds like you may be at risk. I urge you to consider going to a doctor.

You can read the information that comes with your pills to check about the vomiting - mine says the pill is considered missed if you throw up within four hours of taking it, yours may be different. If it is considered missed, and you're feeling better, you could take an extra one from a spare packet.

More importantly though it sounds like you need to get to a doctor, as [livejournal.com profile] jbberish said.

Take a look at the instructions that came with your pill, to see whether this counts as a missed pill for you and to see what you're meant to do in the case of a missed pill. The instructions vary between pill brands.

If you do need to take an extra one, take it from the end of your pack so you can keep taking the rest on time. You might however need to contact your pharmacist/doctor to get another pill packet, because you won't have taken the full 21 active pills. But I'd worry about that later, sounds like you have more pressing concerns :S feel better soon.

I second the Doctor reccomendation but with hazel is wonderful for sunburns that are blistering and i'm assuming your skin is very blistered. Put it in the frideg and apply it with cotton balls. It feels really great and will help fight infection.

your local pharmacy should have it. I know my Mom has CVS brand.

CVS is the name of a particular pharmacy chain. You might have CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreen's, Sav-On, and/or others. :)

Oh my! You poor thing.. I also agree with the doctor but you know that now. :oP
Uhmm I've used Noxema on my worst sunburn. It feels cool and not burning. Also aloe helps burns.

Yeppers. If you get some, make sure that it's regular Noxema though; they also make a special face formulation, and you'll probably want the regular cold cream. It does wonders for sunburns, at least in my experience.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] sweetrush that this may be counted as a missed pill. However, I don't think your protection will be compromised in a major way from missing one pill this time... though it might be a good idea to take an extra one from a spare pack if you feel better today... so I wouldn't worry about that right now: you've got enough to worry about.

I agree that you should seek medical treatment. This may be a serious situation and I hope you can access some medical care... better safe than sorry. Good luck.

Also, ask your parents or friends to pick you up some Pedialyte Ice-pops. Put them in the freezer until frozen, then suck on them -- with heavy vomiting, it's important to replace electrolytes in order to balance your body's water content, and pedialyte will do that.

I'm actually not sure about taking them vaginally... I've never heard that, though I'll look it up. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it though.

If you don't have a spare, honestly I would just continue the pack as normal. Not all brands require back-up after one missed pill, so while it may dent your protection rating a bit, I think one missed pill is sufficient to remain highly protected.

At any rate, if you had sex yesterday and this missed pill did lead to an ovulation, it's not especially likely that the ovulation would occur during the sperm's life-span (which theoretically can reach as high as seven days, though that's very rare).

For most women, while missing pills can trigger the ovaries to "wake up" and begin preparing for ovulation, it will still take some time for them to reach a stage where they release an egg.

If you have to keep missing pills due to sickness, refer to the directions on your pill package (or the online site... you're on OTC-Lo, right?) regarding missing multiple pills. If you continue to be sick you may have to start a new pack as soon as you aren't.

If you're still concerned, you can use backup until you have been able to keep down seven active pills.

Good luck. :) And I hope you feel better soon!

Aloe should work to soothe the itch as well. And for an easy fix... press the area, but resist the urge to scratch, as that further damages the tissue. But sometimes pressing on it firmly can relieve the itchy feeling.

Gatorade is good when you're dehydrated too, and aloe for the sun burn... sounds quite unplesant. *HUGS* from a distance... feel better.
