i put in/take out my nuva ring on fridays..last week i took it out on friday morning at about 7am..and i didnt put my new one in until this past friday at probably around 6pm..is that still considered to be within the 7 days out and still be protected rule? or was i too late and now i'm not protected for 7 days?

Take this as you will, as this is my personal experience. My last re-insert I did something similar. I had sex right around that day. My period arrived Friday evening (which acutally was a bit early for me). I'm going to assume it's ok and safe, but I'm also eager to see what others say.

I would think you would still be at least a good percentage protected because thats not even missing a full extra day...but I don't know for sure, so don't hold me to it...

From everything I've heard, extending the hormone-free week is more risky than shortening it.

That said, in my personal opinion (and I don't have any facts or links or research to substantiate this personal opinion) a difference of less than 12 hours isn't something I would be particularly worried about.

If you're really concerned, you could always use a backup method of birth control for seven days after you first inserted the ring.
