I know this is an incredibly late comment but your post really helped me today! I've been using option 1 but since my birthday happens to fall on the 4th week I was planning on leaving it in. My boyfriend is quite worried that I won't be protected and might have ill side effects, but I think showing him this post will put his mind to ease.
