Hormone imbalance sounds about right to me - I had the same problem when I was on depo provera (talk about messing with my hormones), and by the time I was off it, I was on my period for 2 months straight.
It gets to be kind of annoying after a while.
Just a thought - do you eat much soy? Or non-organic meat? If so, you might consider cutting those out of your diet and see if you notice a difference after a couple of weeks. Soy has lots of isoflavones (essentially, estrogen), and non-organic meat is treated with hormones to fatten them up and make more meat per animal, and more tender.
