The Pill & PMS & skipping a period

Im on the pill... I get mild water retension before my period. Im going away and my doctor told me that, to avoid having a period on holiday to take the next packet straight after this one. Will my water retension go away when my period is "due" or will I have mild pms symptoms until I next bleed?
