uti's and the divacup

i have a pretty bad uti, do you think it's ok to use my new divacup?
p.s. please don't reroute me a divacup community i really don't want to join another community thanks! :-)

Yes, it's fine to use your divacup. I've used mine while suffering from a UTI. It's a little uncomfortable, though, because it does press against the bladder.

For future reference, better honey than vinegar. =/

sorry the p.s. was not meant vinegar-y just ...didn't want 20 comments sending me to the divacup community ya know? and yep i'm taking cipro and i got cipro intravenously in the er
because i'm brand new using the thing i wanted to make sure it was safe thanks!

Our UTI FAQ (http://community.livejournal.com/vaginapagina/6881731.html) does say that using diaphragms can contribute to the infection by pressing on the urethra; but I would think that since you're on a pretty strong antibiotic regimen (Cipro is a pretty tough antibiotic) that it should be okay. That's just my very non-medical opinion, however.

I tend to get UTI's when using my DivaCup for more than a few days. I'm EXTREMELY prone to them though, and so my NP thinks maybe the DC is not for me. But I really do like my DC, so I've just been taking Macrobid (which I always have to take after sex) during my period which has helped. Precautionary antibiotics > tampons, in my opinion.

It should be fine, just sharing my UTI/DC experience, although not completely related to your situation. :)

i'm rather prone to them as well having had a caliceal diverticulum on my left kidney that they weren't completely able to remove plus i'm allergic to sulfa drugs so cipro has always been my antibiotic of choice for uti's...

i'm not sure about this and was wondering... I've worn my divacup all week, and last night I started to get the symptoms of a UTI, and now today I am burning and all grossness, so I haven't worn my cup. can't go to the doctors yet.. i wonder if a cup can CAUSE a UTI??? I've checked memories over in menstrualcups but no answers.. hmm!
