i think i might have a slight vaginal infection: it sort of burns and is itchy, and feels sticky.

my question is: would this prevent me from ovulating? i know that when you ovulate, you're supposed to produce clear discharge that's very wet. it's been 7 days after the end of my period (i'm a normal 28-day cycle) and i haven't gotten that discharge. i was having a little bit of it on tuesday, but that might have been due to... sexual activities (no sex, just fingering). but then it stopped after tuesday, and i still haven't gotten any.

the burning feeling was there already on monday/tuesday, so i don't know... i'm afraid i might be pregnant, which would be horribly bad - can anyone give me some advice? there's probably a lot of unconscious stress about college decisions right now (i'm a hs senior), even though i don't really FEEL stressed out... can anyone give me some advice?

Stress can certainly delay ovulation. I'm not specifically aware if a vaginal infecction would.

However, it's not always a perfect method to identify ovulation by discharge alone... while that is indeed the most obvious external sign, it can be different from time to time.

Can I ask a question? What leads you to be afraid that you're pregnant? I'm assuming that you had a normal last period, and if you feel you haven't ovulated yet, that would make pregnancy a very distant possibility.

That's a pretty lengthy series of events to occur to have you be pregnant.

, but his hand definitely touched his penis, which might have had leftover semen on it... dried, but nevertheless there.

Sperm cannot live very long outside of the body, and they cannot live in a dried environment. Basically, as soon as the gooey wet is gone, they're gone.

Furthermore, it may be possible to get pregnant from fingering, it's incredibly unlikely. If someone dipped their finger directly into semen (not pre-cum, but semen) and immediately thrust it into your vagina, sure.

But what we're talking about here is a finger that may or may not have come into contact with small amounts of pre-cum (not a lot of semen in it), or dried cum (no living sperm).

Honestly sweetie, I think it's insanely unlikely that you'd be pregnant. If you were, I'd want to hand that sperm an award of some kind.

Also... if you're saying your period ended last Saturday, and this happened Tuesday... that would be what, day 8 or 9 of your cycle? Ovulation would normally occur around the 14... as in, tomorrow.

Take a deep breath sweetheart. I really don't think you have anything to be stressed out about.

no, it certainly won't prevent you from ovulating - however, it would almost certainly prevent you from conceiving. that fertile quality cervical fluid you get in the days before ovulation is the perfect medium for sperm to swim through/live in, and you get it if there's no other factors involved. if you have a yeast infection or something, that complete changes your cervical fluid, but NOT your ovulation, which has to do with hormones, not the state of your vagina. :)

*also - fertile quality cervical fluid and lubricating discharge due to arousal are very different things. the former is a lot like eggwhites.. you can often see it hanging there after you use the bathroom, it's long and slippery and wet and stretchy, can be clear or opaque. the lube stuff is usually just wetness. :)

plus, the lube-stuff is more acidic than EWCM.

well if your cycle is "normal" (who's is really?), you probably wouldn't ovulate this early--it's about in the middle of your cycle---so you shouldn't expect that for another week. Some people do ovulate early or late, but I wouldn't be concerned about not seeing it yet. I don't think that the burning/itching would indicate pregnancy either. Anyway, I personally have never heard of that being a symptom.

right---for some reason, I was reading it like you said that you "started" 7 days ago, not "ended". Sorry about that.
