Brazilian wax

vaginapaginai'm considering going in for my first one relatively soon...i have a gift certificate to a salon that does them, so why not use it for that?
my questions boil down to this:
1 - just how painful is it?
2 - how long should i let the hair grow? i shave currently, but i have been letting it grow out in anticipation of going.
3 - how much should i tip? i suck at tipping at RESTAURANTS, so i know i'm going to need some help with this. for the record, they charge $75 for the wax.
any and all tips/advice are welcome...thanks.
