Taking birth control early to skip period

Hey guys, I wanted to know how safe it is to take birth control pills early in order to skip my period. I am in a long distance relationship with my bf and he's visitng me the week I get my period in november. I want to be able to make love and not bleed all over him, so is it wise to take my pills early? Are there any nasty side effects I should know about?
