If you're interested in reusable pads you could always get a little pot like this (http://www.birthwithsol.com/padpots.html) to let them soak in with some peroxide or soap until you can give them a proper wash. They could chill out there and your roommate wouldn't even know it's there if you wanted to be discrete. You can find some pretty cheap pads on ebay if you don't feel like making them.
Personally, I'm switching to a Diva cup, but everyone's already told you about the wonderful things about it ^_^
