#1. Ok, so i am in love with the Sunday Night Sex Show, and i heard Sue talking about lube and how apparently you can use cooking oil, like canola oil as lube. :/ which i find odd. Is it safe to go inside of you? because the thought of getting cooking oil in the vag doesnt sound pleasant or safe. :/ any input?

#2. Baby oil. My boyfriend wanted to use baby oil as lube, cause we were out, but i was not keen on using it, because once again, getting inside of me. The same with vaseline, i know i know. It's used on babies, its gotta be safe, but once again, what if its inside of me?

Im the biggest nerd ever, im just always nervous about certain things in my vag. I just dont want anything in my vag that could seriously harm me.

Any input you have would be great. thanks.

EDIT
Im not interested in using any of these, just mainly curious, and i am on the pill. so the latex condom isnt a problem

Theoretically oil is fine. You cannot use it with *rubber*, however, so using it with latex condoms is right out. I wouldn't go near baby oil, though, as fragrances generally don't belong anywhere near one's vulva and vagina.

I've used apricot kernel oil upon realizing the astroglide was nowhere near. It's a vegetable oil and it doesn't remind me of french fries. I'm not prone to any sort of infection and I have no clue if one would be more prone to yeasties or other infections if using oil. *shrugs* I doubt it would hurt you.

I don't know if either is safe, but I just wanted to tell you I wouldn't let either of them near my vagina. Anything I fry chicken in I'm not letting inside me. lol

Olive oil is very healthy for your skin and hair, even directly applied. :D

Whenever I've needed to use lube, I haven't needed to actually put it inside me. Usually, I just place a small amount on my vaginal opening, as that's the place most likely on me to be dry. Of course a small amount of that must actually get inside my vagina once a penis or vibrator goes with it, but I'm thinking that this "small amount of a small amount" might be so small as to be negligable.

I wouldn't use any of them as lube myself although I now have a strong desire to put some canola oil in my vagina just to see what happens. ;)

I used olive oil for masturbating once and it was fine.

As an above poster said, I would not use baby oil because it's fragranced. I think mineral oil might work, though. And i'm sure Canola would be OK as long as you're not relying on latex condoms.

Em & Lo's The Big Bang has this to say:

You shouldn't use oil-based lubes if there's a vagina involved: it's too damn hard to wash out of the body -- it can hang out there for days, encouraging bacteria to cling on, which can lead to infections.

They offer this list of possible DIY lubes for giving guys handjobs ONLY - not for use in the vagina:
Generic hand cream
Baby oil
Hair conditioner
Peanut/coconut/olive/vegetable oil
Hair gel

but man, just go get some lube anyway, I reckon. ;)

I have heard that olive oil is perfectly fine. And baby oil and vaseline are DEFINITE no-nos.

I've used olive oil before with my boyfriend.

If I got a massage oil from the Body shop made purely of corn and olive oil, and used it as a makeshift lube and had contracted no infections, itching, irregular discharge or ANYTHING even after months of use, you should be okay. (This was a while ago too, so nothing popped up afterwards)

Is it safe to have sex in a swimming pool - chlorine water getting in vag? Is it safe?

What about soap?

Date: 2005-06-25 11:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] inkydragon.livejournal.com
I am not sure about the chlorine- I can imagine that it would dry your vag out pretty well and make it tear, but I am not sure. Soap is evil.
Is this meant to be a post? It might get answered easier if it was.

I've used olive oil in my DIY yeast infection cures, and it worked well. You can't use any oil that goes rancid at body temp, but olive oil works great, although between it and the yogurt, I did smell like a greek salad. ;)

Not a member here, but saw this post. Cooking oils are SAFE. I was part of a TTC community (trying to get pregnant), and cooking oils are used as "safe" lubes that are sperm friendly. Also egg whites are often used. They don't lube as well, but they work.

This is from Encyclopedia.com:

"petrolatum ... colorless to yellowish-white hydrocarbon mixture obtained by fractional distillation of petroleum. In its jellylike semisolid form (known as petroleum jelly and also by several trade names) it is used in preparing medicinal ointments and for lubrication. As a nearly colorless, highly refined liquid known as liquid petrolatum, liquid paraffin, or mineral oil, it is used as a lubricant, as a laxative, and as a base for nasal sprays."

While mineral oil and petroleum jelly (Vaseline) are approved for human use, I generally don't use them because they're derived from oil drilling, which is a huge geo-political and environmental issue.

Just a piece of info. Do with it what you will.

just buy some ky. It works and there is even ky that gives you a warming sensation. There are TONS of different lubes you can use and they can actually be very fun!!! Don't be scared of it.

But vaseline can be very messy and if you use it with condems they can break them down, so that isn't a good choice.

Baby oil isn't a good choice either because it has too many perfumes and stuff in it. It could cause some irritation.

I've actually never heard of using canola oil - but since it is just vegetable oil I don't see why it would be harmful.

Be adventurous! You might like it!
