I was watching this show (I forget the name) that conducted studies on men and women's "sexual peaks" .. they stated that the studies done to determine this was back in the 1950's. What they based their studies on was the ammount of orgasms that each group (men and women) were having. The men who were orinally thought to peak in their late teens were likely having most of thier orgasms through masterbation. Doesn't sound like a very good sexual peak does it? Also in men, the hormonal levels indeed rise at around 18, but they continually stay at that level until they are 60 or so. In women, on the other hand, they found that they had to grow more comfortable in their own bodies, and actually learn how to have a good orgasm. This can take a few years, and usually by the time that a women is 30, she has it mastered, and thus enjoys sex more often, and experiences more orgasms. This made sense to me, although it's just a theory, I hope it helps!
They say (who "they" are, I don't know) that it's mid-thirties for women and late teens/early 20's for guys. I'm 37 and my husband is 19 and WOO HOO we find those statistics to be quite accurate in our case. ;)
