I've heard that you shouldn't reinforce OrthoEvra with bandage tape. Is this true? If so, why? Does the adhesive interfere with the hormones or something?
i normally use the tape when i shower. if the adhesive does interfere with the hormones...i really dont see the point in having the patch on market...it falls off too easily, imo.
Have you tried different places on your body? Mine falls off instantly from my butt and shoulders, but stays firmly in place all week on my hip. I think people are all just shaped differently.
yea, i consisdered using medical tape towards the very end of my week... but have never had to as of yet... would be interested to find out.
Yea i have very different results depending on where i put my patch, my butt is way to curvy and it just lifts waaaay to much, my upper back gets moved around too much during my weight training class but my lower back and upper arm work perfectly.
If you look through the info included with the patch, it says that it needs to adhere to the skin, and NOT to tape it back on, because then the hormones won't be absorbed. If your patch falls off call your doctor, or the pharmasist, and get a replacement one.
I used to use tegaderms over mine (like gigantic pieces of contact paper for your body, lol) but the pharmacy tech said not to, though I could use surgical tape. Basically, you don't want the patch to come apart from the skin and you to not know it.
IIRC, part of the hormone delivery system in the patch is actually IN the adhesive. So if the adhesive isn't sticking to your skin well enough to keep the patch on, it might not be sticking to your skin well enough to actually get the hormones into you. That's why they tell you to put a new patch on if the old one falls off.
i don't know if this will help anybody but when i wore the patch (for a very short time) i was always nervous about the corners peeling off, getting fuzzy, etc. And whenever i wore it into the shower, it got kinda crinkled up, making me paranoid. i made a "patch" for the patch using a square from a thick plastic bag and then i kinda duct-taped the top and sides to my body OVER the patch and it kept it from getting wet and therefore peely and wrinkled. It's obnoxious-looking but strangely funny.
