I'm going to Planned Parenthood tomorrow (I am one of the millions of people without health insurance, it would cost more than I make) to get an annual exam and get more BC.

I've been on Ortho Cylcen 28 since I was 18, with only one pill change, to god only knows what, but it made me so sick I lost 30 lbs in a month and I bled like a stuck pig, so I was switched back to Ortho Cylcen 28.

I've been considering asking for the patch. Last year it had just come out and the clinic was out of them, so I just got pills.

Pros/cons of the patch? I'm not down with Depo or the implant (both kinda freak me out), IUD's scare me ALOT, and I dunno if I could do a diaphram.

I'm 25, don't smoke, only one relative has died of cancer, I exercise, eat well and I am sexually active.

Thanks everyone this community is AWESOME!!

I just found it kinda odd that your PP had Ortho Cyclen 28. I dont know how many PP's have a few different pills, but I know that the one here only offers 2 different ones and that isn't one of them. I wonder how many different types of BCP most planned parenthoods have to offer?

Also about your ?, I myself have never been on the patch but have heard both good and bad things about it. But like most things you're going to hear good/bad things about most things. Do you happen to remember what it was that you took that made you so sick? Its just you don't want anything that is like that in the make-up of estrogen/progestrone, and my question to your doc would be, if they are anything alike in any way, because doesn't sound like it was a positive experience. Although, if you don't like the side effects if you have any or if you just don't like how it makes you feel in general, its not like you can always go back to the pill, its pretty easy to do if you decide you don't like it. So, I'd say give it a try if you want to! And GOOD LUCK!

I've been on the patch for a few weeks now.

Pros: You only have to change it once a week and it sticks easily to your skin. If you put it in the right spot nobody will see it.

Cons: There are a few side effects that comes with the patch. I've been experiencing nausea, breast tenderness, and occasional depression.

You may not experience the same side effects as everybody's bodies are different.

My roommate was on the patch and said it seemed a good match hormonally (didn't notice possible side effects that way) but she got a bad rash in that area from the adhesive or something, which i've heard happening to other people too. So maybe depends how sensitive your skin is? She switched to the ring and loves it.

(you might check out [livejournal.com profile] ortho_evra.) i've had a positive experience with the patch. the first month i had spotting, breast tenderness, and a little nausea, but ever since the bad stuff's gone away, my period's still a little heavy but the cramps are better, i love only having to think about it once a week. and my sex drive remains completely intact :)

I got a Mirena IUD about a month ago, and I love, love, love it. What is it about IUDs that scares you?
