Ladies,

I hate to do this, but here is, yet another, yeast infection (at least I hope it's just a yeast infection) related post.

I was taking antibiotics for about three weeks, when all of a sudden, I got a nasty yeast infection. Whenever I get a yeast infection, I barely get any discharge, just an awful itch, and awful smell. Well, I did half of an OTC treatment (Monistat 3) and then I did another OTC treatment (Vagistat 3), and none of these treatments did anything, so last Wednesday (the 1st), I went to the doctor. Before I went to the doctor, my mother told me to take a shower, and get cleaned up, because she was probably going to do an exam. So, I did, which I'm beginning to think, it was a bad idea (I think maybe I washed all the yeast away!), because when the doctor took the q-tip thingy to the lab, to see how much yeast was on it, she reported back, that there was hardily any yeast, but that my vagina (and surrounding areas) were, in fact, swollen and red. She prescribed me Terazol-3, and I went on my happy way. Today, now, almost a week later, nothing is better! In fact, after just using one of the Terazol-3 suppositories (after she wrote the script, I decided to wait a couple of days before starting the treatment - I guess to see how long I could hold out, because for a few days, I thought it was getting better).

I'm about to give up on the prescriptions, and OTC treatments, and try some home remedies. I guess, I'm worried that this could possibly be something worse? Today, has been one of the worst days, and even the little discharge that I barely ever get, has come back.

Another thing I forgot to mention, was that the skin in my vulva, and surrounding the vagina, feels, almost....cracked? It sometimes stings the surrounding skin when I pee, or even when I apply the suppositories.

Help? I'm 17, and very miserable right now.

i'd say it's probably a yeastie that has gotten resistent to the chemical crap.

When I was younger and started getting regular yeast infections, after using a bunch of the over the counter the stuff (this is pre-Diflucan) I still felt like I had a yeast infection even though there was no real yeast present.

Turns out I had over killed. So I used the yogurt to bring back the normal balance. I did the douche, skipped a day, did it again.

Now for my yeast infections I swear by boric acid suppositories. Way cheaper than most other OTC stuff. And I can use them before I actually get all the symptoms but know I'm going to have one.

Good luck!

..it could be BV (bacterial vaginitis, I think it stands for) - my sister and I have been diagnosed with that. When I had it, I used the OTC yeast infection stuff before I went to the MD and it hurt like a (*&^%, hurt so bad I had to wash it all off immediate.

Also, I tried an herbal remedy, douching with tea tree oil that's supposed to kill the bacteria. Waste of time, complete waste of time. I doubt a shower would have washed away what's inside (unless it was really creative or vigorous), but a douche would've, definitely.
