when i first started having my period, around 11, i never had serious cramps, back pain or headaches.  but over the past year or so (i'm 17 now), i have noticed that i become violently sick when i get my period.  i have a headache that lasts for the entire cycle, low iron, i seem to become very nausous, i'll become very weak & it will be hard for me to stand for long periods of time (ie. 1/2 hour or more).

in addition to this, my boyfriend and i have discussed that maybe i should go on the pill, just for another back up when we have sex (although we haven't yet, but it doesn't hurt to plan ahead).  although i'm not one to take medication, and i become very forgetful about it.  i have been surfing the Planned Parenthood website, and i'm really considering going there.

onto my questions.
-those of you that do take hormonal birthcontrol, has it helped with headaches, backpain, low iron, and such?  i'm not really to keen about the pill, so will Depo, the Ring or the Patch do this also?
-can i walk into planned parenthood without an appointment, and also can i have my period if i go there. (considering i want to try to go sometime this week)

any help or suggestions, would be greatly appricated. thanks :)

The pain your experiencing isn't normal so a trip to planned parenthood is a good idea.
They will most likley want to do a pap smear on you, which just checks everything out and makes sure your girly bits are ok. Although you may be able to get by without one since you aren't sexually active. But unless your highly opposed to one I'd go ahead and do it to be safe.
As for going while on your period they can't do a pap then so thats kinda up to you. And I do think you need an appointment to be seen.
I don't know if they give the patch, ring or shot there. I think they are all good options, just discuss it with the doctor and figure out what is right for you.

Hmm....you know what, I have the same problem (the period pains). Same thing really, I didn't have the pains when I first got my period. It seems just in the past two years I've been getting cramps, that each period, get progressively worse. Pretty much the same pains you describe with the exception of the headache.

Depending on where you are, you can just walk in, call them up or find the one in your area on the site and it should say there what they offer and if an appointment is required. I get sick and weak some times too, but you sound like you're getitng it a little worse than Iam, I don't know much about it sorry.

Just FYI-- when my physician was prescribing birth control pills for a problem not related to contraception, he warned me that they can actually cause headaches. I'd assume that that applies to any hormonal method of birth control.

I've noticed an increase in my headaches since I've been on birth control >< I kinda wish I had known that before I went on it, because I probably would've looked into different options a little more thoroughly.

my roomie was on pills that helped with the iron issue... the "off" pills had iron in them instead of just being placebos... good luck!

The same thing happened to me. I never had any cramps or anything. Then, all of a sudden, I was violently ill and in severe pain every period, and it turns out I have endometriosis and ovarian cysts, so see a doctor as soon as you can.

Good luck. I didn't mean to scare you. It could be nothing. I just wanted you to know that it could also be serious,
