Keep in mind that many women are allergic to nonoxynol-9, and that there's some dispute regarding its safety (http://www.sexuality.org/l/safersex/non9art.html).
Supermarket, mail order, convenience store, sex shop.
Mail order is of course more descreet. Places like GoodVibes.Com, AdamAndEve, and similar will send them on ccard order. It's plainly wrapped, so no one knows.
More quickly, most grocery stores sell them, and have a pretty good variety. Foam, Jelly, pre-treated condoms, vaginal sponges and vaginal contraceptive film (VCF) are the most common.
Convenience stores have less variety, and are more expensive.
Sex shops are, well, sex shops. If you're comfy going in one, then they may have all sorts of stuff, but it depends on the place.
As for the actual stuff, Foams and Jellies tend to drain out easily. Condoms with spermicide are good because you get the protection from STDs, and 2 forms of birth control, all in one. Drawback is that some people are allergic to latex AND spermcide, so you may want to touch-test prior to use to make sure all is OK. Not much experience with sponges. VCF is interesting - it's a square of gelatain, about 2 inches on a side, that you just put inside, and it disolves. The only issue seems to be that it likes to stick on it's way in. On the othe hand, if put in immediately before sex, it provides a small amount of barrier against swimmers, but again, only condoms reduce the risk of disease.
I just read about a good one called Advantage 24, it seems to be the only one that lasts 24 hours. You can buy it mail order from http://www.birthcontrol.com it's a bit pricey though. I'm probably getting a diaphragm soon so I'm keeping an eye out to see if I can buy some in the UK.

Hope that helps.
