Yaz, Cramps, and PMDD

I had the worst period cramps last night. Ever. At first it was normal enough, usual cramps. I was doubled over stretching while helping to make dinner. We had dinner and I took some Magnesium and a generic Pamprin type pain pill. About a half hour later I was in the fetal position with my hands on my pelvis. I've had bad cramps before but these were awful. I had the heating pad and it was still bad. I went upstairs to the bathroom to see if something was blocking my cervix because I've read that usually cramps come with tampons because they block the flow. I wasn't using one last night and it was still really terrible. I managed to finally go to the bathroom (cramps get worse when I have to have a BM) and ugh they finally went away.
I'm wondering if I should continue with my birth control choice because my PMDD symptoms seem to be roller coaster-y again/still and Yaz isn't exactly the best drug to be on. I got on Yaz because I am pretty sure I have PMDD I've read testimonies from ladies who have it and I seem to fit the bill. I mentioned it to my GYN and she said Yaz was a good choice. I was put on the generic for a little while and it didn't help/made it worse but now my symptoms seem to be returning and I've only been on Yaz for less than a year.
I'm scared that I'll go off the Yaz and back to Ortho-tricyclen and have the same cramps plus super moodiness. When I talked to my doctor last year, when I said I thought I had PMDD she said try Yaz and then maybe mood stabilizers. The PMDD was better but now it's kinda coming back. And since Yaz doesn't help with the cramps, just makes the period lighter I'm not sure what to do. I don't remember how the cramps were when I was on the Ortho-tricyclen but I do remember that they were still there.
Does anyone have any advice? I am getting really tired of flipping out at my boyfriend because he doesn't hug me enough. I turn into a crazy lady and want to feel in control of myself all the time, not two weeks every month. I have done a little research but am feeling very lost with all the chemicals and all that.
