Hey VP!

When I had my "well-woman" exam back in January, I had extreme abdominal pain during, but especially after, the bimanual exam. I had to sit in my car for 10-15 minutes after my appointment to try to avoid throwing up from the pain. I had some pain for the rest of the day, but I believe the pain was gone by the next day. I had never had this kind of pain before, and I haven't had it since. (Oh, and this wasn't my first pelvic exam - it was my fourth. I never had pain with the bimanual exam before this.)

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before, or if anyone knows what could cause it? As far as I know, my NP didn't feel anything unusual. The appointment wasn't going so well even before that part (she was dismissing side effects from my birth control pill, ignoring information in my medical history, etc.), so I was just ready to get out of there as fast as possible rather than asking questions.

I will probably be seeing a doctor in August or September because I want to switch to an IUD, and I'll probably end up asking about this pain as well. Is it likely that I would need another pelvic exam to get this pain checked out? I have vaginismus so I'd like to avoid pelvic exams as much as possible, especially after reading information about how they're really not medically helpful anyway.

ETA: I forgot to mention that I tested negative for chlamydia, gonorrhea and BV in January. I've had BV twice, back in October 2010 and January 2012. I treated it with antibiotics both times (metronidazole the first time, then clindamycin suppositories) and as far as I know that was the end of it.
