Oh fabulous VPers, I thought you might have some wisdom on this situation, since once again the doctor I went to...didn't.

For the past couple of months, my blood pressure has been high. When I went to the doctor about a month ago for a sinus infection, it was 140-something over 117 or so. This was kind of alarming to me, as I'm only 21 and while I do have a family history of hypertension, no one has ever gotten it before their late 40's. My mom, who was just diagnosed recently, also drowns ALL of her food in salt, which I don't. I have been under significant stress lately juggling work almost full time, school full time, and coping with my fiance being deployed, but...that's definitely higher than I would expect.

So, the doctor asked ME why my bp was so high. (Uhhh, I don't know, isn't that kind of your department, lady?) I asked her if it could be because of my pill (OTC Lo), because I know that hormonal birth control can cause hypertension in some people. (My mother-in-law was one, and they didn't realize it until after she had a hysterectomy and started having dizzy spells due to being on medication after her bp went down on its own in absence of the HBP. Scary!)

Doctor said, and I quote, "I don't know. I have no idea."

She proceeded to tell me to come back in two weeks, and if it still high, she'd prescribe me medication. Hold on a minute! You want to prescribe me a permanent medication at the drop of a hat with zero investigation of alternatives? No thank you.

I didn't go back, but I did decide to take a break from my birth control since my fiance won't be back until May and I was on my last pack anyway. I've been off now for almost a month, and whenever I finally find time to make my yearly appointment at the health department (where I get my bc and exam), I will definitely be asking them about this.

In the mean time, lovely VPers, have any of you had any similar experience? If this blood pressure thing is due to my HBC, how long would it take after stopping for it to return to normal? If it's not, is this the sort of thing that it's customary to just prescribe medication for with no consideration of any cause? It kind of came up out of the blue, and I've had no diet or lifestyle changes recently, so it has me confused...

Thank you in advance, wonderful folks! (And thanks again for your fount of information on migraines in my last post! You are amazing!)

Hey, peeps!

I am currently on a HARDCORE dose of Amoxicillin for an ear infection, and the last time I was on antibiotics (Doxycycline and Flagyl) I got what my gyno called a "whopper" of a yeast infection. My boyfriend is visiting next week, for the first time in over a month, and I do NOT want to be all yeasty. So in addition to taking an acidophilus supplement orally, is it okay to pop a few up the vag as prevention? Will that screw with the flora balance too much and cause an infection?

Any personal experience is appreciated!

Hey superstars,

I'm a straight cis-female, and have been in a relationship for a year and a half (with a cis-male). We share the same faith, but have differing views on what it means for sexuality. I am okay with pre-marital sex in a monogamous relationship, while he is uncomfortable with any kind of pre-marital sexual activity (this includes breast/ass groping). So far, it's worked fine-- in my opinion, if a couple disagrees on boundaries, they ought to go with the more conservative boundary, so as to avoid making people uncomfortable. Even though I would establish different boundaries for myself, I've accepted his boundaries as our boundaries.

Bit of background ~ cis- gendered female, sexually active, monogamous relationship, not on any form of HBC

I'm on day 2 of my period and I was soaking in the tub to help with cramps. Usually during the later half of my bleed, I tend to poke around my cervix w/ a clean finger and check what it feels like/scoop out any clots. This time around I was feeling around in there tonight, just to see how differently it felt. I felt 2 lumps on my cervix. They were small and seemed close to the opening of my cervix. A quick google search says nabothian cysts or polyps. I was just wondering what y'all may think it might be.

FTR, I do plan on calling my OB/GYN tomorrow. Also, the last pap I had was mid Feb. of 2011 and it cam back normal.
