I've been getting the Depo shot for 8 months (twice) now and I should've renewed on the 6th but I skipped it because I'm not a fan (hello depression causing!) and stopping it. (I AM DONE WITH HORMONES!)

I know that it lasts in your system for like a month... thing is, i've been bleeding for a month straight. A few days really light, a few days really heavy, a few days off...and then the cycle starts all over again. And now its like SUPER HEAVY like ... Hoover Damn broke heavy.

Do I just have to wait this out? WHEN WILL IT END?Should I be worried?

To make matters worse, I can't find my diva cup (because i've not had to use it since October) and tampons are basically doing nothing at all.

BUT on the bright side, i'm not cramping! Yay.

Hey, everyone!

This is my first post, and while I read all the rules, I might still mess up. Please let me know/forgive me if something isn't right!

Okay, so I have a period question, and Google is giving me really inconsistent results. I figured I'd come here and ask about anecdotal evidence for what I'm experiencing before I shrug my shoulders and give up on wondering.

I started taking 20mg of fluoxetine (Prozac) on Janurary 19th, and have been taking it every day since. A week ago, as per my doctor's orders, I upped the dose from 20mg to 40mg per day. During the first week of fluoxetine, I had a normal period. Now, five weeks later, my period is here again, but it seems awfully... light. Usually on day two of my period I have to empty my diva 3-4 times a day, but yesterday (day two) I wore my cup all day and it was only half full after like 14 hours of wear. Today the flow, while a little heavier, is still incredibly light compared to where I normally am. The fluoxetine is the only change I can think of having made in the last month. Could the fluoxetine be responsible for lightening my menstrual flow? Google is telling me a lot of different things here.

Other background that might be necessary: I'm 22 years old, and I've had a Paragard IUD for 19 months. Since I use a Diva, I'm very familiar with my usual menstrual output.

I know changes in the menstrual cycle happen all the time for a million different reasons. I'm not disturbed or worried by this change as much as I am curious about others' experiences and if there could be a link between my SSRIs and my lighter period. I also had almost nonexistent PMS symptoms this month... I think that's why I'm compelled to chalk this change up to the medicine.

Thoughts? Just wondering.

PS,
LJ isn't letting me add tags right now. I'm going to try adding them in an edit after I publish this if that's allowed.

Hello, superstars~
I need some advice regarding Yasmin 28. I started taking them for the first time 3 weeks ago (I haven't been on any HBC before). The folder said to take them on the first day of my period (making it effective from day 1). If started at any other date, it would be effective after a week, but could potentially make the menstrual cycle out of sync. My period was supposed to have started 4 weeks ago, but when it didn't show up after a few days, I figured it might skip a month (not uncommon for me, my gynaecologist says it's probably stress related), so I started a package. My period showed up 5 days or so later, and didn't disappear completely until a couple of days ago (making it last longer than usual). This means that in a couple of days, I'm supposed to start on the white pills for my "withdrawal bleed", but my period just ended. Should I start a new package instead and take the active pills until my next cycle is supposed to start, or should I continue with my current package and take the white pills?

Thanks for any advice!

Apologies because I know I read about this somewhere on VP, but at the moment I'm running a fever and sick and cannot find the information again/reliable information from another source.

I am on beyaz (generic of yaz, exact same thing except the non-hormonal pills have a supplement in them) and I remember reading that one shouldn't take NSAIDs while taking yaz-cannot remember if this was because it would decrease beyaz's effectivity or because of some other health risk. (I have always avoided NSAIDS since then.)
However, as I said, I'm sick and scatterbrained and took one aleve today without thinking. I'm not so much worried about the one aleve I took as I am what about would happen if I kept taking it. I would like to use it as a fever reducer because I live in a dorm and don't have access to non-NSAID medication until Monday...

So, what is the interaction between yaz and NSAIDS? Can I take them once in awhile, or not at all while on yaz? Apologies if any of this is poorly stated, I'm pretty out of it.

Dear knowledgeable people,

Is saline amniocentesis abortion a procedure used in the US currently? If so, how often? I would be appreciative of any sources you could point me to on this topic! I am having trouble finding current information.

Thanks!

Welcome to our new weekly links round-up. This is a compilation of items from the past week that may be of interest to VPers.
As a reminder, in lieu of trigger warnings, I use keywords describing the themes of the piece. Please skim these before deciding to read the excerpt or click through for the full article. Outside sources are not safe spaces, and mainstream source's comments should almost always be avoided. The links I highlight don't necessarily reflect VP's views, or even my own, for that matter. For more on the Round-Up, see CVP.

This week's round-up includes: factors that go into birth control access, teens ask YouTube "am I ugly?", Utah House votes to make sex ed optional and ban discussion of contraception, why do people moan during sex?, easy ways to talk to kids about race, black bears aren't interested in used tampons.

What have you been reading (or writing!) this week?

If you'd like to see an article included in next week's round-up, send me an e-mail at also_warriors@vaginapagina.com . Non-US and positive links are especially appreciated. (I can't fit all the awesome links people send, but I'll try to post any that I don't include to Facebook, Tumblr, or Twitter.) You can also just take matters into your own hands and post in the comments!
