Hello VPers. I come to you with a question. Is it possible to change a doctor's POV in terms of permanent birth control?
Background...

I had a period (less heavy than usual) in May. I missed my period in June. I took a pregnancy test about 7- 8 weeks after sexual intercourse. It was negative. I have a feeling I am going to miss my period again this month. I started my placebo pills Monday evening.

Is it possible my initial pregnancy test was a false negative? If I take another test, and it says negative, what the freak is going on with my system?

I'm not scared of having a baby, per say. I know I have many options and family (although in a different state) will help. I just started a new relationship, the would-be baby's father and I aren't together anymore (not sure he wants to talk to me anyway), and I really have no family in the area. I don't have many friends, either.

Just...stressed.

Rant over. Questions were in there somewhere. Thank you!

I know this gets asked here quite a bit BUT my period's missing! Background: I was taking Microgestin for a few years but I started having some issues with it, namely lots of extra PMS symptoms and lowered libido. My doctor put me on Nuvaring around January. My first month was fine but by my second month I took it out 2 weeks early because I was having issues with yeasties and dryness.

My period came around a normal time for the next 2 cycles (which my normal cycles are a little longer; usually 30 days from period start to period start) but I just checked my calender and my last period started on May 26. I've had my normal PMS symptoms twice since my last period- light cramping, moodiness, acne- all around when I should have started, but NO period.

I don't think I'm pregnant; I haven't had any sypmtoms and quite frankly my husband and I haven't really been too active lately due to stress and other factors. When we are we've used a condom every time. So it's possible but I doubt it.

So does anyone have any idea what could be up? Should I go ahead and do a pregnancy test? Is a doctor's visit in order? Wait it out a little longer?

(Edit: haha and then another post just like mine below! I guess I'll just take a test to see, wait, and then go to the doctor. I'm just wondering what's going on.)

Here's a comedy routine in which Dad is supportive and helpful.

I like that they're comfortable enough to cross father/daughter gender lines -- despite how his fellow train passengers react.

NuBra

Hello one and all,

I bought a NuBra a few months ago, and I love it. However, I noticed that it's losing its adhesive property around the edges - maybe a thumb's width? There's still enough sticky area left that it stays on no problem. I know this bra won't last forever, but I'm wondering if there is a better way for me to care for it? Specifically to prevent/ slow-down losing the adhesive quality. Right now I just wash it with mild hand soap when I take it off, and let it hang dry in my bedroom. Should I buy the NuBra wash? (And is there any way I can make the edges more adhesive again, or is that a lost cause?)

Thanks a million! =)

Dear Fellow Superstars,

Thanks to everyone that's chimed in over on our most recent mod post. If you haven't commented yet, there's still plenty of time!

That said, existing comments have prompted us to want to clarify some points.

First of all, VP is never moving exclusively to Facebook. Ever! We have a Facebook page now that we use mainly to keep in touch with folks and amplify our existing community. Facebook will never replace VP on LJ as our primary discussion-having place for so very many reasons. So never fear! (NB: We also have a VP presence on Tumblr and Twitter, if you need to get more of your VP fix on.)

Second, we have no immediate plans to delete or stop using this space on LiveJournal. We have a lively and vibrant community here, and VP grew up on LJ--this is really a great space for us, for innumerable reasons. Any solutions we come up with would be in addition to (not instead of) the LiveJournal community. That way, those folks that would prefer not to follow VP elsewhere don't have to, but folks who are willing to, can. And there will be a space to go for help/info when LJ has its next outage.

That said, what we are looking to do is find an additional space to host VP discussions outside of LJ for those times when LJ isn't working so hot. We've noticed a decline in new members in VP for a while, and that compounded with the recent DoS attacks has prompted us to want a back-up space for our community. We think that, in time, the back-up community could grow to be just as vibrant as VP on LJ, although that is not the most immediate goal.

And now, a poll! Please feel free to discuss the pros and cons as you see them in the comments to this post.

[Poll #1766560]

Boric Acid

I ordered boric acid powder online along with some 00 gelatin capsules. They arrived today and I am afraid of the boric acid, as it says this:

Preferred Plus Pharmacy
Powdered Boric Acid
POISON
For technical use only
not for internal use

I know boric acid is technically a poison, so it this still safe to use vaginally inside the capsules? Thank you.

I'm 24, and my period has always been irregular. Not sure if this is relevant, but I've been on this medication called spironolactone for the past 8 months. Its actually not for period control (its for acne), but it regulates male hormones or something (its similar to birth control). Just thought I'd mention that, in case it may be relevant.

Anyway, my last period has been really weird. It started about less than 3 weeks before the last one, and even after it was supposedly over with, I've been getting brown stuff (which I'm assuming is dried blood) coming out. I usually get dried blood coming out after my period, this is normal, but it doesn't last for more than 2 days. But this time, it lasted for I think 4 or 5 days after my period "ended". Then it stopped for a few days (I'm guessing 3?) and it just started again yesterday. What is the issue here?

I'm not sexually active.

I've looked at www.mum.org and no, they don't make any mention of it but...

I could SWEAR I remember seeing ads for a menstrual cup that was kinda terra cotta in color and shaped kinda like a bucket with thin near vertical sides and a flat-ish (or was it slightly V-shaped?) bottom.  I think it had a ring at the base.  Did it also have a string through that ring?

The names "Assurance" and "Ensure" keep flitting through my long term memory -- but I'm pretty sure they're both wrong.

It was definitely NOT the Keeper, which is circa 1987.  This was way before that.  And it was after the demise of the Tassette/Tassaway.

(Is anyone else old enough?)  Does anyone else remember or know what I might be talking about?

This has been driving me crazy.  Please tell me I'm not the only one who remembers it.  Ask your mothers.  What the heck was it???
EDITED to add a lousy sketch )
Despite my lousy artwork, that's similar to how it appeared in the ads.  It was hand drawn, not a photograph.  There was text above and below.  And the colors are pretty close too.
