The steroid cream didn't do anything. My GF thought it was working when the treatments were closer together, so Shelly (the Nurse Practitioner) said to try 3x per day for 2 weeks, then go back to 2x per day, and see how it goes. Well at the start of the second 3x week, things started burning pretty badly and didn't stop for a couple days :( So my GF quit the Desoximetasone 0.25% and moved the follow up appointment to last Friday.
Shelly confirmed it didn't do too much in the 2 months my GF used it, so it was stopped altogether. There are 3 things happening now/next:
1. New prescription. The "anti-depressant" noted in my last post was prescribed at a very low dosage, btu even the pharmacist said it's never prescribed for depression, only for chronic pain/inflammation stuff. So that was reassuring, my GF certainly doesn't need anything affecting her personality!! It's Nortriptyline HCL 25mg once each day before bed. No idea if it's working yet but the only side effect she's found is dry mouth.
2. New thing to apply topically - vitamin E oil. Shelly said some people find it soothing, so my gf is giving it a shot. The capsules were on sale over the pure oil, so she bought a bunch of those and just snips one open each night.
3. An appointment with the next doc up the food chain, David Eschenbach. Apparently this guy is world-renowned for treating VV and similar stuff. Shelly had to send a letter of referral to get my GF an appointment, and suggested that she see either Dr Eschenbach or anyone he says to see at his clinic. My GF called Friday to give them all her info to review, and was supposed to be called back Monday to schedule an appt. Well she didn't hear so she called today, and was told Dr Eschenbach himself wants to see her, so I guess that's good? She says either that or she's so messed up that a world famous doctor is interested in giving it a go. :) He's booking appts in late August now, but my lucky girl snagged someone else's cancellation for the end of June.
What Shelly said was that the painful red tissue goes deep, so topicals sometimes don't work. Dr Eschenbach might do injections of stuff similar to but less reactive than the Desoximetasone. At this point I think my GF can withstand anything, after all a few needles are nothing after you have your hymen surgically altered right??
So there's the update, she's still using the dilators about 2x per month and that's not too bad. She wouldn't let me go down on her when she was all steroided, so the vitamin E is a nice change in that dept too. :) I'm sure i'll post again for us after the upcoming appointment. Thanks all for reading and supporting us. I can't believe my first post to this comm was way back on May 12 2007... Still fighting the good fight!!
