I pretty much know the answer to this already, but some comments would be nice. The last week and a half or so, I've noticed that I smell different. I can't really describe it, but almost musty, rather than sweet. I taste funny too. So, the questions. Is this because I started nuvaring a little over a week ago, or because I've been eating less fruit than I was, or because I'm sick? If it is nuvaring, has anyone had this go away after awhile?

I'm scheduled for a colposcopy first thing tomorrow morning- which I'd really like to get over with, since they're about as fun as.... well, as having a colposcopy. However, today and tomorrow look to be being the tail end of my period, so I'm not sure if I should call and reschedule or not. Now, since I have a Mirena, 'periods' for me are.. barely spotting for a few days. Less actual bleeding, more that my ordinary everyday discharge turns a blood-ish colour.

Should I call and cancel, or do you think it'll be alright?

Also, I've heard/read a lot about cervical cell dysplasia since I went for my last colposcopy- they found mild dysplasia and told me to come back. However, nobody's told me if this means I have HPV or not? I know it means I possibly or probably do, but I'm curious as to what else it could be?

Thanks!

I was recently prescribed a course of antibiotics for BV. My question is this - how long will my HBC be less effective because of this? I know that antibiotics reduce its effectiveness, but is it just for how long I am taking the antibiotics or is it for the rest of the month?

NuvaRing

I've been on the NuvaRing since July and love it because of the fact that i don't even have to think about it. But hate it because of these intense mood swings. I know that mood swings is one of the side affects but is there anyone that has experienced them and had them go away after a period of time? I guess I was hoping that maybe my body just had to adjust and the mood swings would fade away after a few months. But they don't seem to be and I'm about to give up on the ring.

I've been doing a ton of research on BC and is there anything that anyone would recommend that is similar to the nuvaring? I'm thinking of trying the patch. I can't take the pills (swallowing pills makes me nauseous and i could never take them on schedule) and i don't want something somewhat permemnent like the shot..

Thanks!

I went to the specialist today and have been diagnosed with vaginismus. I will start physical therapy very soon. The physical therapist I am going to see has thus far successfully treated EVERY one of my specialist's patients suffering from vaginismus. I am extremely hopeful and excited to get started. My boyfriend is not excited about the fact that we can't have sex, but he knows the repercussions of having sex before I am ready.
Now to go yell at student health for hurting me at my previous visits to them!

Hey y'all.

A friend of mine is getting the run-around from some really impressively terrible doctors in Louisiana - I was hoping that someone here might be able to recommend a good doc who specializes in ovarian cysts/endometriosis/anything having to do with this sort of thing. Baton Rouge or New Orleans are the most convenient for her, but I have the feeling she'd go pretty much anywhere in-state to get some competant medical help.

So, anyone who knows of a good gynecologist?

Thanks!

Pain?

I have a question regarding unusual pain during sex, under the cut )

Ok, so i started getting a yeast infection yesterday. I waited a day to see if it would get worse, because they tend to either go away on their own or get bad very quickly. This one got bad quickly. Sarting last night it started to hurt when i peed so i figured "ooh great, I am getting a UTI on top of this". As of about an hour ago My pee is pink, and my urethra is definitely bleeding. I explained that i am going to the ER as soon as my husband gets home (2 hours from now) and that right now, I only want to know if there is anything i can take to help with the pain.

Well nurse called before i could hit post and didnt seem to understand that i have no car and will not walk 4 miles to be seen, when i am going to the ER later. She said not to take anything at all. So I will change up my post a bit.

Have any of you every had yeast infections progress to UTI's with bleeding? How about in less than 24 hours?

EDIT: No use making a new post. I am being treated with Diflucan for the yeastie, and bactrum for the UTI. I have been tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia but wont know the results for a day or so. Apparently they can test that with urine now, but she did swabs too just to be sure. She said her preliminary scan of the samples under the microscope didnt show anything scary (her words) but the lab hads to take a close look.

A few nights ago I noticed I had an itchy red bump in my pubic hair, sorta close to my clitoris but on the mons pubis. It oozed white pus when I pulled the skin around it a little. I applied a hot compress on it for a few minutes and plucked out hairs around the area that I thought were maybe causing the problem but I probably didn't know what I was doing. I tried using an acne body wash on that area the next day, which didn't seem to irritate it or help it. It has decreased in size in the past few days and doesn't itch nearly as much. I've noticed it has a bit of dry skin around it. It's like there's a dry, white colored circle around it. I do shave that area. The last time was the thursday before last, and I shaved sort of hapharzardly and probably not carefully, so it's probably an ingrown hair. The dry area, though, that has recently popped up makes me concerned about herpes or hpv. I'd be grateful for others' opinions on the matter, thank you.

okay i researched this online first and I got a few mixed reviews on this.

I left my hormonal birth control in my car today for a few hours from 3-5. I know on the package it states do not leave them in extreme heat! Do you think the package is okay or should i be worried?

I have been prescribed amoxicilin(sp?) for a sinus infection and I forgot to ask my doctor if the anti biotics would effect my IUD (I have the Mirena obviously or I wouldnt be asking). I googled but obviously that is not the most reliable source of information.

I will be calling in tomorrow to ask the doctor first hand but thought I would ask here too to see if anyone knew for sure.

I got pregnant with the shot while I was finishing up antibiotics and I can't remember now what I was prescribed.

I've heard its only certain antibiotics that effect the effectivity of HBC...any truth to that or is it all antibiotics?

I have a question about the length of my cycles.

A bit of background information: I am 23. I started my periods when I was 12 and by the age of 14 was on birth control pills.

This past January I quit the birth control pills. The hormones were making my depression/anxiety issues horrific and I didnt like what the hormones were doing to my body in general.

I expected my period to be odd at first after getting off the pills, so for the first time in my life I decided to track my cycle. I mark an x on the calender when it starts and also note if I spot or not.

I noticed something odd: there are usually 36-38 between my periods. That seems VERY long to me considering that the "normal" length is 28 days if I am not mistaken. I do have other PMS issues, bloating, cravings, occasional spotting during ovulation, but none of those seem strange to me.

My question is, what are some possible reasons my cycle is this long? Is it something I should be worried about? (I am starting a job where I will soon have medical insurance, but I dont currently have any) Has anyone else experienced this?
[identity profile] toldmelies.livejournal.com
Okay, this is pretty gross. For the past few days when I go to the bathroom, I've noticed that I've been discharging A LOT. It's clear, no weird smell, everything is normal. There's just a huge amount of it. It feels like I've peed my pants basically. What's up with this!?

Thank you so much.

My vulva is super dried-out. I can feel it just as I sit here. I noticed it a little last night and it has gotten worse today. I've been using plain ol' KY to keep things tolerable. There is no odor or discharge or itchiness. I have not had sex since Saturday.

Absolutely nothing has changed for me except that I was given antibiotics (Nitrofurantoin 100mg for seven days) on Monday for a UTI that made itself known that same day.

I know taking antibiotics can cause yeast infections, but this doesn't sound like one to me. I have taken LOADS of antibiotics over the years (seriously chronic strep throat and sinus infections) and never gotten one. I have also had at least three UTIs before, and never had problems like this. I also know I have never taken this antibiotic before in this large of a dose, so could it be upsetting my balance?

Ideas anyone?

Okay. So I am pregnant, and due in a month (yay!).
I find there are times in my pregnancy (usually during the hormonal "surges") where I feel like total crap. It feels like I used to when I was on Depo Provera. The depo made me really sick, and I had REALLY bad side effects from it.

Well, after I give birth, I might be looking into HBC after I am done breastfeeding. Or even during.. Depending. I know there is a kind that is safe to take while BFing, but that ties into my question...

Does the crappy feeling during pregnancy, give any indication on to what kind of BC I should possibly take? Like, if during the sixth month I felt really terrible, and during my 8th month I feel like total crap, but felt great all month seven... Would that be some sort of an indicator??
Also, for the kind of BC that is safe to take while BFing, would that play in as well? What if that is the "bad" hormones for me? Then what could I do?

Because of the terrible reaction I had to the Depo shot, I am terrified of taking birth control. But I need it. One baby is enough for me right now.. I'd like to see how I do with one, before jumping into another lol. Any suggestions anyone??

Itchy bits

Oct. 8th, 2008 11:39 pm

For the past few days, my outer girly bits have been a tad itchy. Not all the time, and not bad.. but it's been making itself known. It never seems to be getting worse. I have also been having the usual PMS/period symptoms - mood swings, cramping, pimples, etc.. so I know my hormones are kinda wacky right now. I just went off the pill a few months ago (for my Mirena) so I am still getting used to pill-free periods.

I have had no other symptoms than itchiness here or there. I started to treat with boric acid (in case of a YI or BV) but things have been crazy for work and I forgot to for a couple of days. With no other symptoms, I am wondering - could this just be another PMS or hormonal symptom, or is itchiness always a sign of something else? What does itchiness mean for you?

So I am posting this in hopes that you girls and guys will think its as amusing as I did. Maintainers feel free to delete if this is too off topic

So today I was diagnosed with vaginismus and have a physical therapy appointment next week. (I previously posted about it)
My specialist today made me feel unbelievably comfortable and really identified with me on a woman to woman level, instead of a doctor to woman level.
When it came time for the exam, she didn't act like most docs do, that weird way they act as though they're looking at your arm, but they know they're looking at your crotch, and you know their looking at your crotch, and you feel so exposed and vulnerable with this strange person seeing something few others see. With her, it was completely natural. somehow she really made me realize that SHE'S a woman. and it was just one woman, with a vagina, looking at another woman's vagina. not any weirder than watching my mom get dressed or helping a friend hook her bra. it was refreshing.
when she had to do the test to see how strong my vaginal floor muscles were she said "imagine you are in an elevator with Brad Pitt and you really have to fart, but you have to hold it in, because well, you're in an elevator with Brad Pitt." and she and I and the nurse laughed and then the nurse commented on how she thought that white guy from Fast and the Furious was really hot. it was really refreshing to feel so comfortable in such a vulnerable position.

So I just wanted to share this positive experience with all of you, and hope maybe you got a laugh out of it!
