I have a kind of odd situation and I am curious if anyone else has experienced the same thing or heard of this. Since the birth of my second child 10 months ago I have had pain in my groin area that wakes me from my sleep between 3 and 5 times a week. The pain is strong and constant and starts at my pubic bone, radiating through my vulva and down onto my thighs and lower buttocks. This only happens at night and does not go away until I am awake and moving around. I lose a lot of sleep because of this pain. It is not triggered by sex and there is not skin irritation. It always happens if I wear underwear (which means I don't wear it 98% of the time), but also happens when I am not wearing underwear or restrictive clothing. I have had 2 vaginal births without major complications. I did have an upward tear into my clitoral hood with my first birth that was repaired almost two years ago with surgery.
I tried to ignore this problem for months because it just doesn't make sense, but I can't have pain like this indefinitely so I saw my OBGYN who is also perplexed. She ordered a pelvic x ray that showed degeneration of my pubic symphysis, which was expected because I have had a moderate to severe case of SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction
http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm) in both of my pregnancies. The next step is a pelvic ultrasound and then a visit with a vulvar specialist. When I google my symptoms vuvlodynia pops up, but I don't think that is my problem because I have no problem wearing jeans or other clothing and there is no skin irritation.
Any ideas as to what this could be? Obviously I am going to explore this with my doctor, but she is as perplexed as I am and I *really* want to figure this out and get it treated.
