im visiting my parents for the summer and i went into a walgreens store tonight get glue, chapstick, and starbursts. as is my habit, i began a leisurely walk down the "family planning/ feminine care" aisle just to see if anything is on sale or if something new or whatever. so, i rounded the corner and i was in safe-sex heaven. *cue angels singing* you name a brand of condoms and they had it, and then some. all sort of stuff. spermicide, sponges, massage oil, cheap pregnancy tests, and a zillion different lubes. they dont have this big of a selection at my local sex shop back home! I WANTED EVERYTHING! i settled on a little bottle of lube that they definately do not sell back home. probe? its in a black bottle with a little purple circle on it. is it any good?

they also had wet platnium/original/strawberry-kiwi (Boy and i have a bottle of wet light) and a ton of different ID products and astroglide gel and a lot that ive never even heard of and thus cant remember. did i make a good choice? could i have made a better one?

for point of reference, i live in boston, MA and my parents live in waco, TX.

wanting to stop skipping BC pills...

First off I appologize because I know I saw something like this on here awhile ago, but I can't seem to find it in the archives.

ANyway, I have been on HBC and skipping pills so that I could skip my period. This had been working pretty well for me, but now I am experiencing constant breakthrough bleeding for the last month or so because I missed a pill one day and that threw it all off.

I want to save myself the hassle by taking the pills regularly again and having regular periods, but I don't know where's where in my cycle anymore. Can I just stop taking them for 7 days and return to normal? Will my cycle just 'adjust'? How do I go about this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated here. I am getting pretty tired of this.

Brown Discharge

I've already looked through the archives, and stuff on here about discharge and brown discharge. It all seems to say the same thing, so I'm not going to look futher for the moment.

I'm 17, Australian. I use a DivaCup (since feb). Virgin, and haven't used any form of birth control (besides abstinence).

This morning I discovered brownish coloured discharge in my undies. It's been about 21 days from the first day of my last period.
First thought I had: "Again! so soon?"
But my periods don't start like this (they did end like this, but now it's harder to tell using the cup). Also, it's too early. My cycle is ususally longer then 28 days.
About brown discharge: It was said it is normal before and after a period and mid cycle (ovulation etc). Do you think this could be mid cycle stuff? I ususally don't get brown midcycle discharge. Anyone know what would cause this?

I'm not worried or anything, it doesn't itch or anything. It is just annoying getting muck on my undies unexpectedly and not knowing exactly why.

Edit: Sorry, i didn't really describe the discharge. It's a pretty dark brown, and nearly black when in tiny clumpy bits. When I smell it (and I have to get up pretty close) it smells a little bit different (probably more menstrualy smelly) but not very different. Oh, also, my cervix seems to be lower then when I'm on my period, that kinda indicates ovulation and such doesn't it?

BC to Delay Period

I have a quick question, and I'm hoping someone can help me out since I don't quite grasp the concept of birth control pills.

My mom is leaving for a cruise in 8 weeks and just realized she will be starting her period on their first day at sea, and it will last the whole time. She was asking me if it would be possible to start BCP in the next week to be able to skip her period for that one week and then go off it again. She has no need to continue taking it after that, but is curious if she should try it.

I know everyone can react differently and such, but I know very little about delaying periods with BC, so I would like to know if anyone thinks that the chances are good enough for her to go get a quick prescription.

I've been lurking this community on and off for a few years but finally have a question! I browsed the archives and couldn't find anything specific enough to answer my question.

I recently went off BCP (Mircette, to be exact) after being on it for about a year and a half. I went to my doctor and told her I had been having severe headaches, nausea, and (not as often) vomiting that coincided with the 3rd week of my pills. I figured she would switch me to a different prescription, but she said I might be seriously ill and referred me to see a general doctor (!). She said she had reservations about putting me on a different estrogen pill (due to potential illness) but told me she would be okay with prescribing a POP/minipill. (Which I'd be too paranoid with)

I'm angry (partially because my hormones are completely out of whack..) and aren't my three complaints listed specifically as potential side effects of any pill??

I'm not expecting expert or medical advice, but should I go and get blood work/x-rays/whatever done or see a different ob-gyn?

Missed pills

So, this is my first month of being on the pill (Yasmin). I haven't gotten into a very good schedule of remembering to take it yet. Here's how it's gone:

Started on the second day of my period, so according to the pack I should be covered after 7 days.
Took the first week and a half's pills on time.
Took a pill more than 12 hours late in the second week - according to the pack this should not risk my coverage, so I should still be covered at this point.
Had unprotected sex with my boyfriend a day or so after this.
Took another week's worth of pills on time.
Yesterday, the Thursday of the 3rd and final week of pills, I forgot to take it, and again had unprotected sex.
Realised I forgot to take the pill today, more than 12 hours late, and took it.

Now. The instructions say that if I miss a pill in the 3rd week, I can either stop taking pills and have a period a few days early, or not take the sugar pills and go straight onto the next pack without a withdrawl bleed.

Considering I had sex last night after missing the pill, and already took the missed pill today, which option should I take? Which would offer me the best protection against pregnancy?

As a side note, it mentions in the pack that if you forget to take a pill in the first week, and you had unprotected sex in the week PRIOR, you could get pregnant. How does that work? Does the pill act as an abortive tool?

Migraines & the pill

This is hopefully a silly question, but as I've only got my vagina to go by, I can't say what's normal.
Never mind, found the answer :)

Also, I'd like to go on HBC to decrease pregnancy chances (I'm paranoid like many) but out of curiousity, do most people on the pill also use condoms? Or do the majority go without? I keep hearing of people doing both, is that really necessary?

Annnnd... has anyone who experiences migraines gone on the pill and had their migraines become more frequent? I get awful migraines maybe 3 or 4 times a year, and my doctor mentioned awhile ago that it makes me a bad candidate for birth control (although I find them unrelated to my menstrual cycle). I've got an appointment booked with a gyno next month to talk about it but I am curious with anyone elses experience with HBC and migraines.

Monistat+Swelling

I need help. I'd check the memories but I'm so tired 'cause I had a giant fight with my boyfriend and I was awake until passed dawn, and then it was hard to sleep because my labia minora are swollen (thouhg admittedly they're less swollen than they were when I was trying to sleep).

The swelling started with a yeast infection. I was using a home cure (a cider douche) but it wasn't really helping the discomfort my labia were in so I got some generic Monistat cream to help with that. The first application was as, if not more, uncomfortable as the yeast infection, but I figured it'd stop after that. I was wrong. The next two applications kept stinging/itching. And last night I realized that my poor labia minora had swollen up like little balloons.

What should I do? I don't have insurance or a job at the moment and I have issues that I'm not going to get into about going to Planned Parenthood and having a stranger poke at me (I normally go to my GP, because she's been my GP since 2000 and she's NOT a stranger, however I can't afford this right now). I'm going to take a shower and then I was thinking of just pouring cider-and-water over them until it gets better. Does this sound okay?

slight itch/irritation

Lately Ive had a just a slight itch around the clit mostly and lately it seems I have more of a build up of smegma.

But no weird discharge and no smell.

Today I just noticed it looks like theres a small cut on the inside of one of my labia.

Thats the best way I can discribe it.
I just had a pap smear a week ago so I assume if anything was abnormal they would have caught it.

what do you think?

Late pill...sex today

So for the first time in 11 months, I forgot to take my pill before going to work. Immediately after I got home (8hours later), I took it. (I forgot Tuesday night- took it Wednesday Morning). This is also in the first week of my new pack. So my question is: Today I had sex with my boyfriend. We used a condom, and when he was about to go, he pulled out, and we thought I had just was really wet. Well, when he went to take the condom off, it wasn't there! It was inside of me! So my question is, what is honestly the chance of me getting pregnant off of this episode, especially since earlier in the week I took a pill late, for the first time ever?
