Back in January, a friend and I were window shopping, and stopped in at the local "sex shop" to browse around. Neither of us had ever been in there, and we were curious. It's a great place for all things sexual - health, books, toys, etc! We signed up for a workshop entitled "I'm Coming! A Guide to Women's Orgasm", which we attended tonight. I had a great time! And, you know, I actually felt somewhat informed in the matter, from reading this community. So THANK YOU, Vagina Pagina!

Everyone who attended the workshop got a discount on their next purchase, so I bought my very first vibrator. It's nothing really special... I'm sort of a broke college student at the moment, hehe! I'm also sort of an impulse buyer, so when I got home with my fun little bullet-type vibe, I thought, "Hmm, this is VERY powerful. I definitely should have waited and bought one with more than one speed." But, um, I think this will do. Yes, this will be quite alright. :-)

So thank you for being so darn informative, Vag Pag (Vag Page?). Now if you'll excuse me, I have some... business to attend to. ;-)

Hello all!

I had my first Depo Provera shot on February 28, and am now experiencing a great deal of discomfort regarding my breasts. It seems like even thinking about them makes them sore. Now, I normally get fairly tender during my period but never like this.

For those of you that are on Depo or have been in the past, did you experience this? Should I be concerned (though I don't know what this could be a symptom of)? And, most importantly, does anyone have any tips on how to relieve this discomfort? It's driving me NUTS, expecially since I'm a runner. I very nearly cannot bear it!

Thank you so much!

I went to the gyno on Monday. My first appointment ever! I knew I had an infection of some sort, but I wasn't sure what. She did her lil gyno. thing and took a sample and looked in a microscope..

and..bam..it's yeast. She said it wasn't a big deal but because I've never had intercourse and because I don't use tampons regularly..and because she had to use the smallest tool on me ( I can't remember what it's called right now..), she prescribed me a pill instead of inserts or some kind..the pill is Fluconazole..which I believe is Diflucan?

I took it Monday afternoon. I know this pill is suppose to take a few days to work..but it's now Thursday..and no progress yet.

Did the pill not work? Did she miss diagnose me?  Is there still time for it to kick in? Anyone else have experience with this?

I did use monistat months before going to see her (Back in December) to treat this infection..and it did not go away (Yeah..it took me a long time to get to the gyno..I know) so I figured I had BV or another type of infection..but..according to her, it's yeast...why did the monistat not work?

Thanks for any help/advice offered..I'm so confused.

I don't even know how to write this...

I can't even write these words out, but I have to because I have no where else to go. So here goes.

I was raped 6 months ago and I have developed some sort of sores on my vagina (obviously the thought of herpes), but I didn't think it was herpes until a couple of days ago when I researched it. In my heart, I feel it is something else because I feel like I have had this sort of problem since before I had sex, a swelling and on my vagina. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Anything of the kind? Similar experiences?

I also have had bleeding beyond my period (time of the month). I have had a discharge of blood that almost looks like a consistency of a jelly and is heavy.

I am so afraid to contact a doctor out of shame and disbelief. Is there anyway I can talk to a doctor through e-mail first or confidentially?

I appreciate any information.

Heavy heartedly,

I am choosing between a monophasic birth control pill, and Depo Provera. I would like to stop my period entirely, and have been successful doing so in the past. My period, even on previous incarnations of the BC pill were horrible, mainly making me sick, throw up, cramp so hard I couldnt move, and have to miss school/work.

I like depo provera, and have been on it for a while in the past, however, I am currently (kinda) in treatment for Depression, and I saw that its now a warning marker to not take it.

Also, I am kinda worried about PCOS, and specifically hair growth, and I know that birth control pills can help with it, will taking them continuously mess with any benefits for it?

Thanks!

bit of background
I'm 22 years old and no children, don't know if i ever want them, don't particularly think i do. if for some reason someday i decide i do need kids i think adoption is fine and dandy, giving birth just doesn't appeal to me all that much. being american and childless and all my doctor is hesitant to give me an IUD. i had been on depo-provera for the past 2 1/2 years and just recently switched to yasmin, but i'm finding the pill to much of a pain with my work schedule and i think it's not going to be very effective with the dosage of topomax i take (which he knew about)
so to my question
i've been doing research on IUD's
i want to go to my doctor with real life stories of other young childless women with IUD's and what type they have. i feel this will be one way to convince him along with the other information i have.
so stories?

Clueless.

This started to take place when I turned 16 four months ago in November.. and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with just being a teenager.

My body has suddenly started producing more liquids.. my periods have become heavier and longer, and on the days when I'm ovulating I have to change my panties every morning and every night because they get soaked even if I'm not aroused. This is really irritating.

Before 16, I only had light periods that lasted 3-4 days and NEVER went through my panties. I only used one to three super tampons a day. It is now at least three to six super tampons and a week long.

Help?

I've been on Yasmin since I was 16 (I'm 19 now), and I've been having cramps when I shouldn't be - around two weeks, and now (about a week before my period's due - always regular periods). The last time I had lots of cramps (all month long), I ended up having a cyst on my right ovary, so I'm a little nervous. I'm seeing my gyno on Wednesday, so I'll tell her all this, but I'm still nervous.

Okay, I'm going to start off saying that I'm extremely nervous to be posting here, because I'm a female-to-male transsexual. Even though I'm female, I identify as a male. So talking about this is extremely uncomfortable to me. I'll also tell you that I know next to nothing about girlbits and how they work. This is the only place I knew to post about this, but if it doesn't belong here, tell me and I'll delete it.

For a while, my period has been... odd. I'm 16 years old, and I've had it for 6 years, and up until July 2005 my periods (luckily) consisted of absolutely nothing but bleeding. No cramps, no irregular cycles, no mood swings - nothing, from the first time I got it, but blood, and that occured almost exactly every 28 days. Before July, I'd probably only had two or three menstrual cramps ever, but for one day during my period I had them all day, and they hurt so much that I passed out. But this was just one time, I said to myself. It's bound to happen at least once. So I thought nothing of it and went on with my life.

But after that, I kept getting cramps just as bad for at least one day of my period every month, and most times I either passed out or laid down and rested before I could pass out. The passing out/near passing out seems unrelated to the pain from the cramps now, though, because they don't happen at the same time anymore. After I spent 15 minutes in one of my classes yesterday with what felt like static in my brain and preventing myself from passing out (which I have no idea how I did), I figured I should ask someone about it. Well, my teacher took care of that for me by making me go to the school clinic. I asked the lady there about it, and she said that I'm young and it's normal for your period to change and all that stuff. But so quickly and so vastly? My periods are completely different now, and I have a hard time accepting that that's normal. But again, I don't really know how all this stuff works, so it could be normal.

Any advice on that would be great, and really I'm just trying to make sure I don't have cancer. I'm planning on seeing a gynecologist for an exam, but I've never been, and I figured while I wait to be able to go I might as well ask here.

Hey Gals!

My question is a pretty simple one. Just wondering if anyone has tried that "Monistat Soothing Care" powder gel. It's used to relieve chafing. (I am assuming of the thighs.) When I wear skirts, I get the worst chafing on my upper inner thighs. I had been wearing little compression shorts underneath my skirts, but you know - they're not sexy, and here in Utah, it makes it look like I am wearing my sacred undergarments, and co-workers have already thought I was mormon because of it!

In the april issue of Good Housekeeping (which may or may not be on the stands ...my dad works for the publisher so he gets them first and well i read it today) they are talking about a new "vaccine" against HPV. According to the article everyone who had the actual drug didnt get HPV and the 21 people who got the placebo did. Basically this new drug seems to work and is at least a step in the right direction but it needs to be administered to girls before they are sexually active and even though the nation's average of girls loosing their virginities is 17 (that statistic was taken from the article) they need to start earlier to ensure that all girls have a fair chance of getting it. The supporters of this drug want it to be mandatory like the vaccine for measles or at least to become common practice. the people against this, like President Bush and those for complete abstinence, do not want it to be mandatory or common practice because they feel that if we protect our children from an STD that only encourages sexual behavior and takes away the risks of sex. Now i personally wouldnt mind giving my daughter(s) this vaccine..i want them to be protected and i will make sure that they are still aware that there are plenty of other risks that come along with sex. and sure this vaccine could (should..does) take away the risk of HPV but that does not mean girls are going to have more sex because of it or even become even less responsible because of it. If Bush is so worried about girls being irresponsible about sex and starting way too early, then instead of banning a drug why doesnt he just help set up programs to teach students that "the only 100% way to not get pregnant and get STDs is abstinence but that if you are going to have sex anyway here are the risks/consequences/things you should know.....". It is not the medical fields responsibility to teach safe sex...i personally believe its the parents main duty but the schools need to help out. Im just upset about the idea of a drug that would prevent the most prevalent (to my knowledge) std might be withheld because people are afraid it will encourage sex and unsafe sex. there are other ways (better and more effective i think) of preventing sex and unsafe sex other than banning drugs.

Schering (the pharmaceutical company that makes the Mirena) are big fat liars! if you go to the Mirena website and pick the country it will say different things depending on what country you pick! For the U.S. it does not say for nulliparous women. It only says for women who have already had children and want a break or who have decided they don't want anymore children but the French website (I speak fluent French) says the Mirena is equally great for women who have had children as for women who haven't! I feel like I'm being lied to!
*ETA I know it's the disparities between regulatory agencies that causes the discrepancies I'm just annoyed cos I want an IUD!

I went off birth control for a bit but went back on about two months ago. Progesterone-only pills, same kind I've been on for a while.

Alright so I've had mild alopecia in the past related to stress/health, and I remember someone telling me during that time that it takes about 3-8 weeks for the effects of hormone/stress/health/etc problems to reach your hair because it had freaked me out that three months after all that stuff happened I started losing hair.

I used this different brand of conditioner about a week ago and the next day noticed that my roots were incredibly greasy and disgusting. I haven't used the conditioner since, but the greasiness is still there. I've used the extra-strength Pert shampoo and apple cider vinegar to try and clean it up but those only took away a little of the grease. Since I'm in the right time frame for my hair to be showing effects of starting the birth control, do you think that's what it could be and maybe the conditioner was just a bad coincidence? Anyone ever had a greasy hair side effect from hormones?

I read through the VP archives, and saw similar things, but didn't completely find what I was looking for.

Just about 20 minutes ago, I noticed that I was bleeding. It is really dark brown/red, and slightly darker than my usual flow. I have been working out a lot the last couple of days(I haven't done such in a long long time), and first put it off that I have breakthrough bleeding. But I have also had this happen a few times in the last year, where I will start bleeding 7-10 days before I am supposed to. I don't know how to explain the last few times, but this time I can maybe put it down to stress/exercise. Question is, is this normal? Does anyone here get breakthrough bleeding every now and then? I know I could take estrogen, but I didn't think to, seeing as though the last three times, my period has been on schedule. My mom said that she gets spotting about a week before she starts.

I'm due for a gyno visit in May/June, so I may see about switching dosage, but am afraid of the effect it may have on me. I feel fine with my current BCP.

I just hope this is spotting and not my period coming early -_-

okay, so i have polycystic ovarian syndrome. i'm not presently on the pill, because it was relaly damaging my body.* i was, however, really proud of my ovaries, because even once i got off the pill, i still had a period, which is unusual for me.

however, this month i'm kinda confused. i've just been spotting for a bit over a week now, with only a bit of blood a day. i have a date tomorrow evening, and was really hoping (and expecting) for my period to be over by now. normally my periods are just 3 days of heavy flow, and then nothing. :-/ i think i burst a cyst the other day... could that be part of why my flow is wacky this month?

is there anyway i can make my period go faster?

*i have an appt on monday to talk to my doctor about this, too, since she suggested some progrestorone-based options for birth control.

Help?

Hi ladies.. I have a question.. Something that has been bothering me for quite a bit. Before I left for college I had bought a vibrator and used it. I was still a virgin before I came to college. At college I had sex one. I had NO pain [Maybe because I was drunk?] and no blood. I'm pretty sure there was blood the first time I used the vibrator. Anyway- I've been fingered quite a bit these past few months and almost all of them made me spot the next day. I just finished masterbating and I noticed blood on my hand but I'm not on my period and there isn't blood anywhere else other than what I inserted. Do you guys have any ideas? I had a gyno exam like a week ago and everything came back normal. What do you think?

Hello everyone!

I'm writing an essay for one of my classes on Abortion, and I was wondering if you could help me out a bit. I'm trying to find some sources to use for research, and I was hoping you fine vagpag-ers could point me into the direction of some UN-BIASED, factual, informational sites. I'm having a hard time finding legit un-biased, non-radical information. I'm really interested in statistics and maybe even descriptions on how the procedure is actually performed.

Thank you for any help you can provide!
