Hi Ladies.
I apologize if this entry is redundant. I saw a similar topic posted in the archives, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for...
I've been on various birth control pills for the past 4 years or so. For the first 3 years or so, I tried all sorts of different pills, since I found that I'm rather emotionally sensitive to the hormones. =) A little less than a year ago, I saw a new doctor and she switched me from my regular pill (Levlite, which had been working fine), to Camila, a POP. I told her about my concern with switching pills, but she felt that it was important for me to be taking a POP, since I had a 'blinding' migraine a few years back.

Anyway, here's the question... It's a multiple part one. I recently moved from Boston to the west coast, and when I refilled my RX they gave me a different (generic) brand. I was taking Camila without any problems... (other than the one I'll mention later...) and was switched to Jolivette. Now, I was under the impression that this was the same drug, just a different brand, but since I started taking it I've become SUPER moody, anxious, nervy, depressed and unable to sleep. Could it be the pill switch? I should also mention that I've only been taking the new RX for about a week... is that even enough time for it to have that much of an effect on my mood?

Also, (and I have a appointment with PP to discuss this in a couple of days..) I haven't had my period in about 5 months. It started getting lighter and lighter as soon as I started taking the POP, but there's been not a trace of it for about 5 months now. I know that this is a common side effect with POPs, but I really don't like it. Because of this, and the recent problem with the new RX, I've been considering the NuvaRing, although I don't know if this is even an option, since I should apparently be on a POP. Any insight on this would be appreciated. (PS.: I'm not pregnant!)
Thanks, everyone! Sorry for the long entry...

I posted about a week ago about the appearance of a period-like bleeding, nearly two weeks before I was due to start. I thought it was a repeat of two months ago, but it turned out to only last about four days. I then continued to take my BC Pill.
Since I got back from North Carolina for THanksgiving, I have been kind of having lower indigestion problems. Saturday and part of Sunday, I thought I was starting my period again, as I had some bleeding that required tampons. However, I wake up today, a day after I should start, and I haven't yet. I feel some cramping in my lower and upper legs, but I can't tell if it's from PMS or from my indigestion problems. Is it too early to assume I have skipped a period? Also, I don't think I am pregnant, as I had sex the day before I started my four days of heavy bleeding, and was still taking my pills. I am having sort of hot flashes.

I haven't skipped a period before, but some months before starting my pill, I would be about 5 days late. I know stress can stay a period sometime, so that may be it. Could something like Zyrtec(which I have been taking for a few days for allergy problems) be interfering?

Sorry my questions are spastic. Any help would be appreciated

Hi there,
I don't know if this has been asked before. I was told that birth control pills are affected by the weight of the user, but I have never heard anything about the Nuvaring. I am a plus size woman over 245 pounds. I used the Nuvaring two years ago and didn't have any problems with it (pregnancy, ect). But I have gained more weight since then. I know I need to lose weight for my health and have begun a program. In the meantime, I am supposed to start the ring a week from now. I have a question, are their any other woman here who are plus size and use the ring? Also, do you use a back up method because of your weight? Thank you for your help and being honest!!!

hello ladies! :)

i had sex yesterday (sunday) with my boyfriend without a condom, but i'm on birthcontrol. now during the sex, i felt kind of a burning, almost like the sensation you get when you don't have enough lube. so i assumed that's what it was. but later on, i got super itchy and very uncomfortable, and i knew it wasn't the lube, cuz i had a shower. i've never had a reaction to sperm before and i knew the feeling. it was a yeastie beastie feeling. so anyway, we had sex, and now i have a yeast infection. i'm going to get monistat when my mom gets home from work so no worries there, but i have two questions. since my boyfriend and i had sex without a condom, what should i do about him? i know that men don't show symptoms sometimes, so i want to make sure he doesn't get it, and then give it back to me. he's going to the clinic on tuesday but i heard that you can use the cream you get in the kits and put that on the penis. any tips for him will be very helpful! also, what happens if i leave the yeast infection and don't treat it? will anything happen? so yea, just let me know what my boyfriend can do to avoid this beast. THANKS!

For about the past three months, I ahve been crying a lot. I am talking everyday, 1-5 times a day. I just can't control the need to cry. Does anyone have any idea why I am excessivly crying? I moved away in August to go to college, I am in am LDR with my boyfriend, and I have been taking BC (yasmin) for almost six months now. I know that all of these things have a lot to do with it, but is there anything else that may be causing so much crying? Thanks in advance.

how does planned parenthood work?

i need to start getting my birth control again, but i'm so super broke.
it's $20 every three weeks for me (i have endometriosis, and am on continuous), but since i'm so broke i haven't taken any birth control since august.

words can't even begin to describe the amounts of pain i have been in.

my financial burdens aren't lifting, and don't seem to be in the immediate future, so i was wondering if i could go to pp and get yasmin (specifically; it's the only that works for my condition) for free (or a super discounted price) despite my having health insurance?

i think i've worn my welcome with the free samples from my specialist. =X

cold sores

A month ago I was at my GP's office and I mentioned to her that I have been getting some pretty intense cold sores recently. I've gotten them ever since I was a child, but the past year they have gotten a bit more frequent, and much more painful then I remember. Sometimes they take a week and a half to heal. Ugh.

She offered me a prescription (for valtrex, if memory serves) but I told her I prefered a topical cream instead. She prescribed denavir cream. The idea of taking something for genital herpes confused me, and I didn't want to take something every day. I take enough things as it is. I know cold sores and genital herpes are different strains of the same virus, I just didn't know how easy on my body a pill for something like that would be.

Now I've got one big cold sore and another tiny one forming. Both hurt a great deal, and I am second guessing my choice. I've been using the denavir, along with hydrogen peroxide to clean and dry them out. But they are still huge, and not shrinking. I might go back and ask for the valtrex.

Has anyone used valtrex to treat cold sores? Positives and negatives? Do you need to take the pill continuously, or can you take it just on the onset of symptoms?

Or maybe I am mistaken and am thinking of an entirely different pill. If so, let me know.

This is not to dissuade anyone from using tampons or to pass judgment on women for their choice to use tampons. It is merely to explain my own stongly anti-tampon stance: I hate tampons because tampons hate my vagina.

But let me back up just a moment... )

So, the advice of my NP notwithstanding, the Diva and my vag are intimate friends once again.

well for me the memories are down.

I was wondering what the most effective brand or type of home pregnency test there is you can buy at a drugstore (in canada??) Maybe just in general. A friend of mine thinks she might be pregnant and its my duty to go with her to buy one and help her out.. The last thing i want to do is scare her by having a really crappy one that maybe wont read as accuratly as others? I'm pretty dumb on the subject, we might go as early as tomorrow so comments would be wonderful tonight!! Thanks so much ladies.

So you know the whole FDA warning and new labelling information and general ruckus that has been going on in the US about Ortho Evra and how it exposes women to more estrogen than previously believed?

Well, if you're a Canadian user of Evra, apparently you don't have to worry about it.

I didn't know this before, but the Canadian (and European too, I think) "Evra" actually has less estrogen per patch than its American counterpart, "Ortho Evra". Don't ask me why this is. According to the SOGC, recent studies show that Canadian Evra actually is comparable pharmacokinetically to regular 35mcg pills like Cyclen. Health Canada has stated that the matter is under review, but since the dosage and manufacturing processes are different, the FDA warning and updated American packaging don't automatically apply to the Canadian product.

Good to know.

*waves a little Canadian flag* Woo, go us. :)
