The Hymen

Hate to double post, but I felt like this was worth it!

I always see my fellow VagPag women asking about the hymen. What does it look like? Is it normal if it's not like my sister's? Where is the hymen located? While browsing Rotten.com, I found this EXTREMELY interesting and informative page about the hymen. You may also want to check out the rest of their library. (Please note that a few of the things said here are the opinions of the writer, including what exactly CAN break a hymen...some doctors say things like horseback riding can break a hymen, others say it can't.)

(On a side note: mine is a cribriform, but it only has one or two tiny holes and a self-inflicted "puncture wound" towards the bottom.)

Okay, I have two questions both about the patch (Ortho Evra)

1. I forgot to skip a week with my path, so basically I've had one on for almost the past 6 weeks (this sunday will be when I take it off, and then leave it off for a week) But I've been bleeding off and on for the past 3 weeks. Only it's not like a normal period - sometimes there will be darker blood - other times it won't. It's been off and on for the past 3 weeks and it's getting really frustrating. Also, I have some medical problems going on (the disease is called Cushings) and I guess that can mess with your period, but mine has been regular ever since I got it (so about 7 years). Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

2. I've tried the Mystic Tan (just a spray on tan in a booth basically) a few times now, and I really like it. But I've been wearing a thong, because my patch is on my hip. I'm afraid that if I leave it uncovered, then the tanning stuff will mess with the effectivnes of the patch. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think it would be okay to tan with the patch being uncovered (I hate tan lines)

*EDIT: It's 6 different patches I've had on - not the same one

Ok so i may get yelled at here or have a few heads shaking but my mother never told me how to be a woman, she was rasied in a very strict catholic house...

ok so to the point.

i'm 23, never been to a OB/GYN.

i am sexually active with the same (only) guy for 2.5 years.

i've never had any Yeast Infections, Urinary Tract Infections, nothing.

the worst i've ever had is a reaction to trojan spermicial condoms and one lubricant i tried, but after switching products any sort of problems immediatly went away. and the reactions were no mere than a uncomfortable itch.

and i'm not nor have i ever been on BC, and i'd like to be, but i have some deep rooted fears..

now i told you about my mom, well my father has also passed down his fear of doctors unto me...

and i've heard that when they "speculum" you it hurts like no other.

so what i want to know is if i'm not having any vagina issues should i really see a vagina doctor? i don't even go to the dentist or doctor for check ups...

hell my car doesnt even get oil between oil changes...

well i also want to add that i've seen how helpful and wonderful this community is and want to thank you in advance and i am glad i'm now part of this.

What would happen if someone got pregnant while they were on birth control pills and they didn't realize it because they had breakthrough bleeding and thought it was their period ... what would birth control pills do to the fetus if the person continued to take the pills (before finding out they were pregnant)?

Not sure if that question made sense or not; let me know if you need clarification.

This is going to sound silly and it's not meant to come off as racist, but I want to hear about effectiveness of birth control in women of Asian ethnicity. My friend said her shrink has found that different dosages for different ethnicities are effective for brain meds and I see no reason why this might not be the case in terms of birth control.

I am currently on Nuvaring and I've been on it for almost 2 years. The first month I used it, I spotted and was extremely moody, but the Nuvaring has been great ever since. The consistent dosage prevents mood swings, controls my acne, and prevents ovarian cysts. Prior to that I had been on Ortho Tri-cyclen for a few years.

I recently discovered that it is making my blood pressure go up. I don't eat red meat and I am good about salt and fat intake, I exercise a few times a week, I don't smoke, and I don't drink. There's not much else I can think of to reduce my blood pressure, so I am thinking of dropping Nuvaring and other combination hormone birth control options.

I want to see if I can get any experiences before trying mini-pills, IUDs, or Depo, which is a 3 month minimum commitment. Anyway, I've exausted all the resources on the net, as well as various LJ communities for birth control. I want to know if there are any women of Asian ethnicity with experience with mini-pills, Depo, IUDs (hormonal and copper), or going off of combination hormones completely.

I'm interested primarily in any experiences with the above BCs and the mood change and ovarian cyst side effects, but significant weight gain (more than 10 lbs is significant to my 5 ft frame) and acne problems are secondary concerns. My Google powers haven't helped at all, except I found many warnings that Caucasians and Asians shouldn't be on Depo for more than 2 years due to calcium loss in bones.

Anyone? Anyone who isn't Asian but has had the same same experience and concerns I've had with words of advice? This is the first time I've posted to a community, though I am an avid lurker, so thanks for your time and attention.

CounterCrisis Northwest has funded two women seeking abortion services in a clinic in Portland, Oregon. One had to travel by bus across international borders and the other came from several states away. Both had current or recent domestic violence issues related to their pregnancies, and one was a refugee. Both were ineligible for state assistance. Neither would have had the ability to pay if we had not stepped into the gap, and if the clinic doctors had not waived their own fees - getting paid only if all other expenses (including transportation and lodging and food) were met. We really love supporting this clinic!

These women cannot get funded anywhere else, lovely people.

Now the same clinic has called asking for funding for a teenage girl who is currently homeless. But we are dangerously low on funds. She is 15 weeks along, and things get more complicated regarding the procedure pretty soon.

If you have an extra few dollars, any amount will help, please go to the info page of the main organizer and press the paypal button to donate. ALL proceeds go directly to fund women in need and any amount is appreciated.

Cross-post at will.

So I was thinking about FAM as a form of birth control, my Ortho Evra patches are draining my bank every month and I don't know if I can afford health insurance (paying $100-something a month so I can get my patches for like $20 doesn't make any sense).

The problem is, I've always had an irregular period - until I was on Ortho that is. If I stop Ortho (which, I already have) will my irregularity return? Because if so, the FAM method won't really work unless I take my temperature, buy a monitor, or maybe calculate my cycle to see if there might actually be a pattern, just not a 28-day one. I've been on the patch for about three or four months now.

Also, according to most info I've gathered, you're most fertile 3 days before ovulation and up to 24 hours afterwards. BUT - sperm can live inside you for 3 days, if I'm correct...so do you stop unprotected sex 6 days before ovulation? This is a question mainly for you FAM professionals (haha).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I recently discovered I had HPV less than a few weeks ago - the genital warts strain, and I know some stuff about it (I've been to the doc twice and talked to her about my main concerns) however I forgot to ask a few things, and I was wondering if anyone here could help:

1) Can HPV only be transmitted sexually when warts are present? Or must I forevermore use condoms to prevent the spreading of the infection?

2) Does anyone know if the infection can be passed on to my children?

3) Can HPV affect any other areas of the body if it is spread there, ie. eyes/mouth?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer :) I appreciate it.

There much vagina pagina occuring with me at present.

I also dont blame it. Its all my fault.

I promise to treat you better <3

My Question & Background:

I have been on the pill now for two months, but due to a course of antibiotics, i had to do two months without a period break. Me and my SO had unprotected sex in the 7 days after you finish taking antibiotics...(due to date confusion etc) when you should still use another form of contraceptive.

We were just being over cautious, but as i have finished this second month yesterday, and as there has been some possible pregnancy signs (very sore boobs etc)...we thought we might as well try a pregnancy test, just to make sure, even though im sure we are blowing very small thing out of proportion...and everything is just coincidence...

So, the question : Will the test be conclusive if we did it now? Or would the fact that i have only just stopped taking the pill effect anything?

Thankyou for any help

Hello! I'm a nineteen-year-old who became sexually active a few months ago.

Could I be making my body experience pregnancy symptoms? )

So I know there's a new question about menstrual cups in here every five minutes, but I'm curious about them because I hate tampons and I hate pads, and willing my period to go away just stains my jeans. I tried Instead cups a couple of times, but they would not stay in and were uncomfortable and leaky, but I am aware that the reusable cups are quite different.

Anyway, what are the differences between the Divacup, Mooncup, Keeper, others? I highly doubt that those of you who use cups have tried more than one kind, but I really want to know how they compare.

two things:

for the past handful of my periods, my face hasn't broken out (woo!) but instead, i've been breaking out on my legs. around the top of my thighs i get gross looking pimples that have been leaving marks. it almost looks like acne. they only appear around my period so i'm pretty sure that's what's causing it.

i generally have really good skin and never broke out TOO bad on my face during my periods, but like i said, for the past few months my face has stayed clear and the tops of my legs are gross!

does this happen to anyone else? do any of you know of a really good body wash that will take care of this?

second:

i know i've read before about the way to measure yourself to find your bra size. i know realize that i need to do this haha. i just tried to bra shopping and it was just a pile of frustration, not being able to find one that was comfortable, sexy and fit well. (i just went to kohl's and target, i might drag my boy to victoria's secret to help me pick something out). the bras i have now fit fine but its probably because i've had them for a while and they're now molded to my body, therefore not exactly doing a great job.

thanks ladies :)

A few days ago, I went to Planned Parenthood to get bc, and I was told that since I'm a virgin, I don't need and can't have an examination or pap smear, because it doesn't matter anyway. is that true? I figure I could have a LOT of problems without losing my virginity, and I haven't heard anyone else say that they didnt need an exam because they were a virgin.

just wondering. I thought it was weird.

edit;

thanks for all the help, girls. I appreciate it. =)

I have noticed that when trying to use tampons and yeast medications, there's a small ring of flesh a bit of the way in, maybe 2 inches in, that really hurts even when something extremely slender is passing inside it. Past that point, there's no painful sensation. What's up with that? And how can I get it to stop hurting? It's only when something is inside the vagina.

Dunno if this is extremely off topic, but I think it has a little something to do with the emotions from the guy's side of accadental pregnancy. This is not meant to scare anyone or anything- Just something I saw today and really felt like sharing. (X-posted to my journal)

Our latest assignment in Creative Writing was to write a play script and then adapt it to film. My story was pretty good, for the resources I had, and a lot of the other movies are pretty darn good...

But Connor's was just awesome, especially for a guy with a topic he chose...

I'm not sure the names of the characters because for the first part of the movie i was trying to work on another asignment, but it didn't last long...

the plot )

Phe. Nom. En. Al.

Mrs. Saur cried when she first saw it, and if nothing else, I was posatively floored.

Kind of has to do with Vaginas?

Will they let 17 year olds into stores like Fascinations?
I called and they said no.
I'm 18, but i was wondering if my fiancee could come in too.

{EDIT} ; I was thinking about going to Planned Parenthood tomorrow and getting on BC.
What kinds of things do i need to fill out? How much does it cost? Will someone give me the rundown.
