I have seen people posting here about "exchanging papers" with their partners before having sex. I gather that this means exchanging medical records. It seems to me that this might be a good idea in theory, but not very practicable. What's the best way to do this, for the purposes of preventing STDs? How would you bring this up with your partner, and what should you ask your doctor to be tested for? Then, how would you get copies of all the test results? Just ask the doctor for them? I guess I need instructions... Thanks. :>

My younger sister is 14 years old and will be going to high school next year. Being the protective, over concerned sister that I am - I'm worried about her. I know the kinds of people that are at that high school, I know how guys can be. I know how they can be from the perspective of being their friend - no one ever bothered me in high school, I guess it was the whole tough dyke attitude (or that I'm just oblivious, that's very possible too).
To make matters slightly worse, my family is very Catholic and very uncomfortable about talking about sex in general. What I'm going to say to her at some point this summer is that I want her to know that if she needs someone to get her birth control, condoms, a vibrator, whatever, I will be there. I want to give her some condoms now, along with a talk about how sex is a great thing but its so much better when you care about the person, and how having sex implies that you're mature enough to handle the consequences, blah blah blah - stuff she might have figured out by now but it doesn't hurt to talk to her about it and let her know that I'm comfortable talking about sex with her if she needs someone there.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you knew of any books that are out there - very women positive, very body positive... book. Or something. That I could give her in addition to this little talk.

Ok, so I tried to find an answer, but I'm at a loss.

I got my DivaCup, and insertion was crappy but doable.

Now, I tried to take it out last night, and it didn't work. I'd pull the cup about half way out, after pinching it, folding it in a bit, twisting it to the side, bearing down (although I can get it almost all the way out just by pushing) and pulling from the top of the cup with both hands, it doesn't want to come out. I bite my lip and keep pulling, but it gets way to painful and I have to jam it right back up. The same thing happened this morning.

Am I missing something? I don't even want to do this again, I just want it OUT.

I think I'm way to small for this cup.

Background: I have been on the anti-depressant Seroxat/Paxil for a fortnight now. Now I know that one of the main side effects is sexual disfunction, most commonly the inability to orgasm. Now I've always ALWAYS been able to make myself come, and I come at least once or twice with my boyfriend during sex. However, ever since the 1st tablet I have not been able to orgasm at all. I have by no means lost my libido, but jus get really really close to coming, but then it jus kinda stops. I know this is pretty much normal when on this kind of medication, but I was jus wondering if anyone else had the same experiences or if anyone knew how to make it easier? My boyfriend's been amazing about it, but for me, it turns what was once fantastic, super, amazing, mind-blowing sex, into just great sex. I still get enjoyment, but it's not quite the same. Any thoughts/advice/experiences? Thanks in advance!

I just went through the entire FAQ, articles, archives, and the last 50 posts. So if these are frequent topics then I apologize, but I really couldn't find them!

PART THE FIRST:

I do not need the morning after pill at the moment, but would it be possible for me to get one/some just in case? Would I have to go to my OBGYN or could I go to a PP? Also, if I *can* get them in advance, what's the average shelf-life of the morning after pill?

EDIT: Just to make this more confusing, I move around a lot. Sometimes I'm in England, sometimes Pennsylvania, and sometimes New Jersey.

PART THE SECOND:

I really want a tubal ligation. I will be 22 in a few months and am due to be married within a few years. I am still on my parents' medical insurance, but I don't want them to know what I'm up to since they'd flip out. I have saved up enough money to pay for it flat out and there would still be some left over if I develop an infection or if something unforeseen occurs. Since I have the money, do I *still* have to go through my insurance providers to get this procedure done and if so, would my parents have to know? I suppose I could wait until I am off their plan, but that's going to take a while and I get some nice, non-GYN related benefits off it. Also, is my age going to be a factor?

Thanks for your help everyone!

thank you to everyone who's replied with great comments, advice, and anecdotes regarding my issues with bowel movements, bleeding, and especially depo.

i've been doing quite a bit of research today about other methods of progesterone-only contraception. i'm a young newlywed...pregnancy is definitely in the near future, within the next 3-5 years, so i don't believe the mirena IUD is a good option for me. that leaves the progesterone-only pills and depo...and according to the planned parenthood website, there's also used to be the option of norplant capsule implants in the upper arm. i do recall learning about this form of contraception back when i was younger and in sex ed class...probably in junior high. according to PP, norplant is no longer available. but i couldn't find out why.

does anyone here know?

man. i just realized that i'm extremely long winded. i couldn't gotten to my point a lot quicker! thanks again, in advance, for your awesome replies.

I hope this is ok. It's about my lower stomach. It has been doing this for about 2 years, but lately it has been getting worse. I have made an appointment in 2 weeks, but I'm so anxious to know. Hopefully someone can help.

Sometimes when I cough or if I get out of bed in a weird position, I get a stabbing excruciating pain in my lower stomach. Like I said it's been happening for about 2 years, but lately within the last week it's been happening a couple times a day, or a couple time in a row.

I'm really quite scared that it could be something serious..

Any comments would be helpful

heh, i was wondering if any of you ladies experience what i call 'blue ovaries'. i'm sure we have heard of 'blue balls' in guys, where they will experience pain if they are turned on but not 'released'.
now, i sometimes get a pain around the opening of my vagina(and a little bit on the vulva around the opening) when i am sexually aroused but there is no release in sight. usually this happens when i am fooling around with someone and i am not getting any physical stimulus. does anyone else get the dreaded blue ovarys or am i a big weirdo.

*i guess it could be called blue vulva/vagina/labia too

thanks in advance, i am off to play world of warcraft!

I have noticed that for a week or so now, that i have had a little bump on the inside of my vagina. I know everyone is going to tell me to get tested to see whats going on for sure, which i am gonna do. I'm going to get a pap smear this Thrusday. However, I was just wondering if anyone would have any idea what so ever as to what it could possibly be.

Its kinda inside my vagina. Its not hella deep but when i spread the lips of my vagina open, i can see it. I tried popping it cuz i thought it might be a zit but it doesn't really pop. It just bleeds. Its been there for over a week now. I'm not even sure what it is. I was thinking it might be a cyst or something like that. I hope to God its not herpes or anything but i really don't know. Does anyone have any ideas? I was just wondering if i could get some imput as to what it could possibly be before i go. I've been really depressed about it thinking its an STD or something. I have no idea. Someone help :(

So yeah, I am -hopefully- about to finish my hmm... 8th period? And I am almost 19 yeah, so I've posted that I am on Provera and everything, and my Gyno told me that I would have heavy flow for a bit, but this is ridiculous!!!!! I feel like I am 12 and just got my period ROFL (I actually got my first period a month before I turned 16).

I feel so icky! oh my goodness, Blood is EVERYWHERE! omg... blood comes out when I wipe my bum(no, not that it's coming OUT of there LOLL)! blood even gets on my panties- even the back part! I wear overnight pads all day! Oh yeah... so let me tell you girls the tampon story!

So I started my period last Thursday, and I was determined to try tampons, because I'm slowly getting tired of feeling like I am wearing diapers! So, after work I went to Dominick's. BUT before I did so (you should be proud) I looked at the archives on tampons and someone suggested BEYONDS... so I bought some. And I tried it first, it hurt like hell! Then, I tried it... they say you're not supposed to feel ANYTHING, but I think maybe it's supposed to be because you get used to it (is that right?)? So, I didn't feel MUCH... but I was scared that I'd spill blood all over, so I took it out and that was that. NOW, the thing about tampons is- my mom thinks they are the devil! I am almost 19 here.. LOL.. so I hid them (tightly closed) in a space between my bed and my window.

I am so stupid, because I spent the night at my friends house (luckily the blood flow had gone lighter). My friend dropped me off. I called my mom to see where she was and she tells me: "Why did you buy those things???? Now you'll never get married! They knew your cousin lost her virginity because she bought them!" w t f... how did she find them, she cleaned my room (I dunno why)!

If only she knew I own a vibrator! err... this is crazy....

So we went to Walgreens today to get more PADS... and she mentions the tampon thing again (sarcastically).. omg... and as we walked away, I saw the ones for TEENS and I was about to shove them in her face because what does your virginity have to do with wanting clean panties and not wanting to feel like you have a diaper?!

Am I alone on this one here?

Hey guys,
I find myself embarrassingly wet around my boyfriend, even when in public and just holding hands. This is how much this boy gets me. My problem is, is that I hate it. I know it's great when we're doing stuff and when we do have sex, it will make everything more comfortable. However, I hate the feeling when we're just walking around-it's uncomfortable, really. I was thinking that I might have to wear pantyliners or pads but this too could be a pain and inconvenient at times. I assume a tampon would not be a very good idea and would also be inconvenient. I know this is just the way my body is and I should be happy that I can get wet easily but sometimes it drives me crazy.
Is anyone else like this and what do you do?
Thanks everyone.
:) edit: do your boyfriends mind or say anything? mine hasn't but i have no clue, if he does.

Ok, I remember talking to my bf one night about "cherries" and why hymens were called that. He told me that its probably because they look kind of reddish. I began to wonder what my hymen looked like, so one day I decided to lay down in my bed and look at it with a little mirror. I found it.. (and yes I'm certain that it is my hymen) but it is not red. It's rather pink, large, wrinkly and covers the entrance of my vagina (I can barely see my hole) compared to this picture.. http://www.the-clitoris.com/f_html/hymen.htm

I don't think it is broken. I use tampons (the small ones... anything larger hurts me) and I was not very active as a child.. so i don't think it is broken or torn.

Is this normal?

Hullo, all! Spankingly new member, here.

I didn't see this in the archive/memories thingie, so please forgive me (and don't turn me into anything... unnatural!) if this has already been asked/discussed/whatever.

My darling doctor has placed me on the wonderful antibiotic called... Doxycycline. Yes. For noneother than 'infected comiadomes' (I think), which is fancy doctor-talk for plain old zits. Acne. Whatever you prefer to call it. To get to the point...

I developed a yeast infection from that, and I've shot up Monistat 1 for it. I'm also eating yogurt. Lots of it. But here's my question.

How long should I wait after I treat my Y.I. to let my boyfriend use his fingers a bit, or even use my own?

How many days after the first day of your last menstral cycle does a woman ovulate?
I thought it was 10-14 days. I am at day 18 and I feel these horrible cramps on my left ovary. (Never my right, always my left)
Is there anything that I can take for this?

Hey Ladies -

I posted a week or so ago about my light period, and since then I can't help but be a little worried. My periods have become gradually lighter in the past few months, but never like this. This last one lasted for about two days and I let out hardly any blood, I used two tampons and each had so little blood on it, had i left the tampon out i probably wouldnt have even felt the blood when it got on my underwear. My boyfriend and I use condoms, and I am on bcp (the same one for the past 6 years or so), but we have gotten into the habit of a little unprotected penetration before having sex to the point that we come. Do I need to worry about being pregnant? I don't want to go out and spend money on a test if there is no way that i'm preg, and I am hoping to call my gyno tomorrow or the next day, but I don't have her number where I live now and have to get it from my mom. Do any of you have an wise words to soothe my fears for the night?

Thanks ladies

Ellen

tampons

Okay girls.
I have had my period for about two or three years
now and im almost 18. I still have yet to wear tampons,
not cause my parents wont let me. Just evertime i try
it hurts really really bad. Espically the instant i stand
up, so i sit right back down and take it out. And it hurts
a lot.
Could i possibly have a odd, small shaped area, or..
am i doing something wrong.
I really want to be able to wear them, cause its pretty
sad when little 13 year olds can wear them and i cant.
any advice?
