Somewhat inspired by [livejournal.com profile] jaclyn's earlier post,
here is a very cool article on the develpment of the pill.

It contains some really interesting ideas about what we consider "normal" in fertility and menstruation. It's a very long article, but well worth reading.

(the web site at the link announces a fun event!)
Interesting Masturbatory Facts:
According to the latest issue of Flare magazine, in the 1800s, physicians induced orgasm, considering it a valid treatment for hysteria because they thought the condition was triggered by sexual deprivation. Eventually, a doctor invented the vibrator so women could "treat" themselves at home. Yet in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, western doctors blamed masturbation for everything from mental illness and tuberculosis to loose morality. Treatments varied from spiked rings to prevent nocturnal erections in boys and clitoridectomies (removal of the clitoris) for women. An orgasm is considered a good way to temporarily relieve menstrual cramps in women and stimulate the prostate gland in men, reducing the incidence of prostate infections.

I don't really get why the fact that I do want kids makes you so angry?

Honestly? Because I had an abortion last year because my husband wouldnt speak to me when i considered having the baby. I guess i'm pissed off at anyone having a kid when i couldnt. Even though i dont want kids...its a big mess and I'm sorry that i took out my hostility at you. I hope when you are ready, that you have a beautiful, healthy and wonderful child. I just see so many women having children for the wrong reason and not taking care of them properly and it breaks my heart. Once again, I am sorry that i said all that.

Hi there lovely ladies! My name is Michelle, I have been an avid watcher of this fabulous page for quite a while and am so happy that a space like this exists (as well as the riot grrls journal.)

I have been worried about my Wonderful Little Woo for about three months now. I stopped taking the pill in October after taking it for 3 years. My periods almost immediately went back to normal, starting with the full moon each month. Sounds great, right? Well...

For the past three periods something weird has been happening. I will have my period for about 2 days, then it STOPS completely (no blood) for about 24 hours, then starts up again and I will bleed for about 3 more days. Has this happened to anyone before? Is this normal? What the hell is going on?

Thanks girls! *smooch*

BUT they seem like an expensive gamble if I hate it!
And isnt it awkward/embarrassing to rinse in public if you're out??
