I called them this morning and setup an appointment for Feb 14th at 11:am. Unfortunantly, since my husband makes 300 - 400 per week I am not eligable for any discounts so the annual is going to cost me somewhere between $75 - $80. Oh well . . . I knew this day would come when I would have to pay for my female health services. ANd it won't matter when i start working in 2 weeks anyway . . In fact, that is why I scheduled the appointment. I want to get this preliminary stuff out of the way before I start work.

Planned Parenthood does do IUD's and they insert then the week of your menstral period. Great . . . that means If I had the money I could have one inserted the week of the 25th. Woo hoo . . . but chances are I will have to wait a month or so to get the money. THe lady I talked to seemed to think it would cost me between $200 and $300 to have it inserted. Which is fine. I was expecting to pay a lot more. So . . I'm pretty psyched for this.

Ages ago, Someone sent me this in email. I believe it is from the book mentioned, but I don't know how authoritative the author's information is. Does anyone here know? I'd love to know for sure. It's one of my favorite words.

The possible etymology of one of the world's best words )

Well, my friend has gone ahead and scheduled an elective hysterectomy after seeing her gyno for her annual checkup yesterday. She is positively excited about having six weeks off of work, and keeps saying she HAS to do this. She doesn't HAVE to do it, she's doing it because her period is an inconvenience. Her symptoms:

Cramping
Heavy bleeding/clotting 2 days out of 5-7 (generally the 2nd and 3rd days of her cycle)
Loose stools (generally the 2nd and 3rd days of her cycle)
Inconvenience

Ummm.. these are my menstrual side effects as well. THIS is enough to convince a gyno that you should have a major organ removed from your body? She's having a total hysterectomy and both ovaries removed. It boggles my mind that she's really going through with it just so she can have six weeks off of work and won't have to deal with her period anymore.

Can anyone suggest a good source of information on what a hysterectomy does to your body... how your body reacts to having its uterus/ovaries removed?

Thanks in advance!

After reading [livejournal.com profile] joannie's post about how her school put up a poster saying "Viva La Vulva", I've TOTALLY wanted a shirt that says that on it! I don't know who is in charge of the cafepress stuff, but would it be possible to add that as a shirt?
