Pic and details under the cut

I have an IUD, have had it for 3.5 years. My periods can be irregular so I take a test every once in a while to make sure everything is ok. I took this one after lunch today, went to throw out my trash and looked at it again. This is what I saw:

test

There is a faint line right? I know its not really valid since its after the time limit but I have never had this happen before.

If it was after the time limit, that line really means nothing. Shadowing can sometimes show up because that's where (pardon the expression) the chemical indicators are impregnated. So, in a way, yes, you are seeing things. Don't trust what you see after the time limit the test information gives you.

Don't trust it if it's past the time the instructions tell you to read it at. If you're really worried, you could take another. But I would take that faint line (that I honestly am not even sure I can see in the photo) with a grain of salt at this point.

Looks like a vapor line to me; they show up after the time limit sometimes. You could take another test if you're really anxious and make sure to look at it within the stated time.

Honestly I don't see anything, but if it was after the time limit it doesn't mean anything anyway. It's negative.

all the pregnancy tests i've taken so far (which are only three, so i'm not some big time expert here, but they were all different ones) had an explicit bullet-point in their instructions that any positive result that only appears after the time limit is to be disregarded as a false positive.

I agree with those who point out the time limit, but as a die hard ttc'er for the last year if this had been my test I'd have been jumping for hope and asking all my friends if that was a line too.

You'll have to decide for yourself, but for peace of mind if it were me I'd wait a couple days and try again to make sure. (since I assume you don't want to be pregnant based on the fact that you say you have an IUD.) I hope it turns out however you are hoping it will.

I would just take another in a few days and forget about this one. I don't even see a faint line if it's any comfort :) I have heard of tests showing up positive an hour after they've been taken but it's not valid because the time limit. Nobody I know who's had that happen actually ended up being pregnant, they've always been false positives.

That sounds/looks like an evaporation line (http://www.peeonastick.com/hptfaq.html#7). I've noticed those on tests before too, especially after the ten minutes are up. As long as the test was negative initially, you're good to go -- as others have said, any result showing after ten minutes is not to be relied on.

Evaporation! That's what I meant. Not vapor. :)
