Spotting

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who's not a member of this community. This friend has had some problems with spotting. She's been spotting all day today, and she's not sure why. Coincidentally, it's happened twice, and both times were after hooking up with the same guy. He fingered her, but nothing else. She also just started doxycycline and is on HBC. Does anybody have any advice? She's a bit worried! She also mentioned that she's been tested for STIs (before hooking up with this guy) and knows she doesn't have any.

I did try to tell her that it was normal. However, I think she was concerned because the bleeding has lasted throughout the day, so she didn't think that it was just from being too rough or something like that.

I used to have this happen to me on a fairly regular basis. From talks here as well as with my doc, and some experimentation, I've realized three things may have been at play:
1. Nails scratching some part of me, even though my partners all had fairly groomed nails
2. My cervix was getting whacked, which can definitely lead to bleeding, even for a full day
3. Orgasm was pushing older blood out of my uterus

It was not related to any STIs or infections. My cervix was healthy-looking. I was on the NuvaRing at the time, and don't recall if it happened after I switched to the Mirena.

It hasn't happened in a few years, and I don't know why. Perhaps my sex involves a lot less fingering?

Oh oh a thought: Of the five or so times I've had antibiotics in the last two years, twice I've started spotting heavily or had a full-blown period upon finishing. (With a Mirena, it's hard to tell the difference, because my full-blown period is about the same as heavy spotting.) I know I'm not the only one in VP with this experience.

Maybe it's the antibiotic?
