Because of concerns related to fertility about IUDs leftover from 40 years ago, the Mirena ppl decided to not try and get it FDA approved for nulliparous users and thus bypass those unfounded concerns and got it to market faster. http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/07/ff_iud/
