UTI

Hi everyone!

So on Monday I woke up and when I peed, there was a little blood in my urine. The last time that happened i had a kidney infection and went to the hospital. However it was not as severe this time, (as in the amount of blood and pain), so i bought some UriCalm for my symptoms and drank a ton of cranberry juice and water to flush myself out. I definitely felt a lot better, and my urine looked a little, "cleaner" so to speak, except yesterday there was a little blood, or rather, darkness when i wiped, so i made an appointment with my doctor. he gave me antibiotics, took a sample, and sent it off to the lab to confirm. Between 4:00 yesterday and now (10:45pm), I have had no symtoms whatsoever. I haven't taken the antibiotics yet, and I am unsure what to do. The only reason I am hesitant to take the antibiotics is because I don't want to take unnecessary meds. I know the smart thing to do is to just take the antibiotics, but where did my UTI go??

Any insight is appreciated, thank you!

Some people don't get the classic symptoms when they get UTIs (no or barely any pain or bladder issues, etc). Since you didn't seek treatment until it had progressed to a kidney infection last time, do you think this could be happening to you? And did you get the results of the culture back?

Just remember if you start the antibiotics, finish the entire course so you don't get resistant bacteria building up in your body.

Essentially, you treated the symptoms enough that they temporarily went away. But cranberry juice doesn't kill the bacteria in your urinary tract, so they're still lurking away. Personally I'd just take the meds, but if it makes you feel better you could potentially wait until the culture gets back, assuming the symptoms don't return.

Your symptoms are gone, but the bacteria/infection may still be present. You're better off taking the antibiotics as directed, even if you don't like taking medicines. If you had blood in your urine, you have *some*thing going on in there, and even one kidney infection can leave you with scarring in your kidneys, you know?

I'm not crazed about medication either, but I take my boatload of necessaries daily anyway. ;)

When last I had a UTI there were zero symptoms at all. My doctor found it in my lab work during a regular checkup and it came as a complete surprise to me that there was anything wrong. It can happen, so you may want to go ahead and treat it like it's still there.

Take the antibiotics. You'd be risking possibly your entire health if this goes untreated and continues.

Hey--not an answer to your question, but just a UTI tip: Be careful of what kind of cranberry juice you drink. Some juices contain a heck load of sugar which could feed that UTI. I just take cranberry pills, or drink unsweetened juice (kind of hard to down) if I'm trying to prevent a UTI. But for all I know you ALREADY know this...so ignore my advice if it's not helpful:):)

So... I got a UTI early Dec and treated it with antibiotics. Symptoms only popped up once.

Later, on the 29th/30th I got UTI symptoms again, but was at a NYE music festival and the symptoms weren't that bad, no blood and didn't last for lone, so I thought it would just go away. Then on the 1st Jan symptoms came back, and a lot worse with quite a lot of blood. I still didn't do anything about it though as the symptoms finally went away. Now on the 5th Jan symptoms have arrived again, not too bad, maybe a little pink on the tp, the main symptom is itching. I've had this one for too long now though so I'm going to get some more antibiotics. I don't want this getting to my kidneys.

I think I'll be fine, but don't do what I did.
