Is it possible she was swabbing for a UTI culture? I don't think that is general practice, but that's the only reason I can think of off the top of my head to swab the urethra. (Though I'm not a doctor, I'm sure there are other reasons.)
But, as lilsongbird said, drinking lots of water to dilute your urine will help. Also, you might try icing the area with some frozen vegetables in the bag, if you have them on hand - be sure to wrap them in a towel, rather than applying directly. It should help with any inflammation in the area. Also, if you can, try an anti-inflammatory such as Aleeve.
If it isn't feeling better by tomorrow, you should consider giving your doctor a call back to get their insight.
