A tip, for once!
I was just browsing through the memories about oral sex, out of curiousity, and a thought struck me that I thought I'd share...
About a year and a half ago, my boyfriend and I finally met to consumate our (long distance, at the time) relationship. He started by performing oral sex on me, and things progressed from there... All great stuff. Until a week later. I ended up with a horrible UTI.
I'd read that sex can cause them, and I'd taken all the precautions I'd read about... Peeing before and after sex, cleaning both partners genitals first, etc. So I was baffled. Until I found out shortly afterwards that my boyfriend had a lingering sinus infection.
I asked a doctor about it, and found out that most likely what happened was that his infection traveled through his saliva during oral sex and got into my bladder. Months later we tried oral sex again when we thought he was well, and the same thing happened, and sure enough, soon we found out that he had a sinus infection he didn't know about.
So after that awful experience, he started brushing his teeth and using an antiseptic listerine right before oral sex. I haven't had a UTI since.
Thus, my tip is this: If you even slightly suspect you have an infection that could be in your saliva, either disinfect yourself before oral sex or use a dental dam!
