Next week, I'm getting  a D&C for suspected polyps/fibroids. I'll also be getting an IUD put in.

What should I expect from these procedures? I'm really scared :(.
For the D&C,  I hope they find fibroids, because I have extremely bad cramps/weak spells that wake me up during the night right where my uterus is located, and it travels through my legs. I know polyps don't cause pain, but fibroids can, so I'm scared I won't get an answer if it's polyps. I'm going under completely for the procedure, and am very scared about that, too. I want them to be totally honest with their findings and not miss anything. Also, how bad is the pain when you wake up? And what was your experience?

I've been told the strings hurt your partner during sex and also that they can reject with small uterus' (which I do have...), but it's supposedly worth the risk, because I have extremely heavy periods (I have a bleeding disorder, but birth control hasn't been able to control the bleeding). I'm scared of it rejecting and I'm scared of it implanting itself into my walls or something. Ahhhh :(.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

While I don't have any specific advice for you, I just wanted to say good luck. I hope this helps out! Also, you may want to check out [livejournal.com profile] iud_divas for some more input on the IUD aspect!

I have two large fibroids, and no excess pain when I was still having a regular menses. The PCOS gives me more grief, actually.

That said, I hope your D&C solves your issues. :)

I hope that that D&C helps :)

I had a D&C back in 2005. I was completely under as well. I just remember waking up in the recovery room shivering and having an awesome nurse wrap warm blankets wrapped around me. It took a few hours for me to feel well enough to leave the hospital. I did take vicodin for two days for the pain.

Sorry, I can't help with much of the other stuff, but when I got my Mirena, my gyno told me that my uterus was pretty much just barely big enough - any smaller and he wouldn't even try. It seemed like he was almost expecting it to not work out. In the end, the whole procedure went perfectly - he was surprised - and now I've had it for about a year and three months [well, no ultrasound to make sure it's in place, but I have no reason whatsoever to suspect that it's not].

Of course, the usual disclaimer, it's different for everyone - but I just wanted to let you know that there's another small uterus out there that's happily sheltering an IUD!

I hope everything goes well.
