Hey everyone, I have a quick question, I couldn't find any answers digging through here or through google, so hopefully someone can help. :)

I just got back from a 4 week long trip to Germany to visit my boyfriend. So before I left, I grabbed an extra pack of birth control pills because I didn't want to get my period during my last week there. But now that I'm back, and on my fifth week of active pills, should I continue to take the pills and wait for my period in three weeks like usual? Or can I stop and expect my period sometime this week?

Either or - BUT!

You need to be on at least 21 days of active pills and off no more than 7 in order for your protection to remain uncompromised. So either you will have to save this pack for emergencies (lose a pack for a few days, etc), throw it away, or, once you've had your period & resume this 3-week pack, stack the next pack.

This. Because of these complications, whenever I've skipped a period (like right now!) I just take both packs in full - i.e. 6 weeks worth of pills, and then have my withdrawal bleed at the end of both packs.

Yep! But OP should also know, especially if this is the first time that she's skipped a withdrawal bleed, that she may spot.

It can disappear in a few days, or it can continue on for a week or longer. If that happens, I tend to "give up" and let myself have a withdrawal bleed, then finish my pack & start a new one. Sometimes spotting won't end unless you let your body know what a real hormone drop feels like.
