Nuvaring questions...

So, since some of you suggested I look into the Nuvaring because I was scared of hormonal side effects, I did, but now I have a few questions (sorry if some are a bit dumb)...
The things I've read say that you can't feel it in there during intercourse. Why is that? It seems from diagrams to just be lying in your vaginal canal and could be felt by a man's penis. Is there something about the positioning that I'm missing?
What have been your experiences with this? Has your partner felt it?
Is it possible that it could fall out or be dislodged during intercourse?
Could you still use a diaphram with it, or would there not be enough "space" to do that?
Has anyone had experiences where you've stopped having side effects (especially weight gain and mood swings) because you've switched to Nuvaring from other contraceptives?
Does it interfere with your period at all like the pill? I mean, does it cause shorter periods etc?
Also...unrelated, but can I just say that I love this community? All you womyn are so sex/vagina positive and open minded. I'm glad I got to hear this view. Because of this community and the womyn in it, I just ordered the DivaCup and some Lunapads. I would never have known about them if it weren't for all of you...thank you!

Date: 2003-10-20 06:17 am (UTC)It sits high up in your vagina, up around your cervix. So, sometimes you can feel it, but it is pretty high up and out of the way most of the time. It's possible to dislodge it during sex, but if you want, I believe it's okay to just take it out for a little while anyway, so it's not a big deal if that happens. My friend who has one says she can't feel it at all during sex, but her partner can sometimes - but that doesn't bother him at all.
Just like the pill, it regulates and will probably lighten/shorten your period (it's the same thing as the pill, just a lower dose and delivered locally).
Good luck with the DivaCup, I hope you love it. :)

Date: 2003-10-20 09:32 am (UTC)I'm not sure that using a diapham with it would be wise, seems like if there is too much in there it might get cluttered and dislodge the diapharm. The Ring is designed to be used as the Sole form of BC, so you really don't need another form unless you are super parinoid.
When I was on pills, they seriously fucked with my hormones and i lost libo turned into a major bitch, so far, i'm good. It does vary from person to person, you just need to try it out and see.
Oh and if you have more questions, check out

Date: 2003-10-20 04:09 pm (UTC)As far as side effects, I had to quit using it because I was having the same side effects as I had gotten from all other forms of hormonal b/c I've tried. But I am super-sensitive to hormones. If it weren't for my reaction to it, it would have been a great form of b/c.

Date: 2003-10-20 10:21 pm (UTC)Nuvaring worked great for me. It is a low-dose hormone so I did not experience any side affects (could be different for you).
In general, my BF did NOT feel the ring during sex. It's not that big. It won't get dislodged, don't worry.
You are allowed to take it out for up to an hour at a time and then re-insert it. So if your BF DOES feel it, take it out no prob!! :D
I highly recommend it :)
Any more questions?

Date: 2003-10-21 12:05 am (UTC)no you can't use a diaphram, because the ring prevents it from sitting right, unless you took the ring out for less then 3 hours while using it.
i havent had any side affects with it but this is my first month i take it out on the 28th ill tell you about my period then :]
